Was the UP government's decision of creating statues out of public money justified? Mayawati wasted public money to create her own statue and to cover it up she makes statues of other leaders as well. Is this pure wastage of money justified?

The dalits are pining forsome symbols they have very few, Valmiki Ambedkar, Mahatma Phule. Every community in India has Huge symbols or SEA_LINKS in Mumbai named after their family members when they r in power.I can understand the dalits also need symbolism, 10000 crore and more but one own statues. This is a bit too much.

We are facing a recession in the country. The people are being thrown out of job. It is very hard to conserve money. Be it individual or be it The government. A Common man is working day in and day out to support his and his familiy's livelihood. Even in these hard situations, the common man is still paying his tax.

Amongst these tough situations in India, we see the Government wasting money on meaning less things. The UP government Leader Mayawati gets  statues done for herself. On July 3 Ms. Mayawati is slated to inaugurate about 40 statues, including six of herself, at a function in Lucknow. Chief Minister had spent Rs.10,000 crore on parks, memorials and statues at a time when the farmers were faced with the prospect of drought.

The big question is Why??? Why this wastage of public fund? The govenrment could have utilised the funds to boost the economic of the country. UP has the maximum number of people below poverty line. Why were these funds not used to raise their financials to an acceptable standard??

The government says that it acts as an inspiration to the public. But inspiration doesn't fill their stomach. And how inspirational is Mayawati's own statue - that too six of them. All this is happening because we chose this government. because the public of UP chose mayawati as their leader. This is sheer waste of money and not at all justified. Thats my opinion.

Saha sahab one correction, its Babsaheb Ambedkar and not Valmiki Ambedkar! Sir, being on this side of the coin that too deliberately has its own winnings too, not easy to argue with facts but nevertheless its a strategy! I hope you get my point!! :))

Look every coin has two sides and yes I am on this side of the coint just to understand one thing that is so vehemently coming out from all of you on the 'back'side of my coin ... ITS HIGH ON EMOTION!!

Himanshu, I believe that the money could have been utilised for more progressive work that would have really helped the people in terms of better infrastructure et al. But look at what result I have achieved by just for the heck of it going to the other side!! A thumbs down from a friend!! :))

Now do you understand where I come from? The action is taken. The people will attend in huge numbers to unveil teh statues of these so called heroes. There will be merry making and lots of words of praises for the HEAD(?) of the state!! The end result ANOTHER TERM AT BEING HEAD OF THE STATE!!

Somebody has to YES to keep this debate going isnt it?? Well here I am.

The state of UP is known for its historic importance, its vastlands and of course the major income from agriculture for the state apart from the North of India.

People in UP are very emotional and are ready to destruct at a snap of a finger. Thats because they attach a lot of importance to our deities and the principled path that our ancestors have led for them to trod on! There are instances of mass destruction during the Babri Masjid issue which everybody is aware of. It affected virtually the whole nation but UP took the max toll. In fact the party heading the way was Bajrang Dal.

Now if the head of the state decides to appease the people for their support and keep the position who is going to bell the cat? So in all practicality the move is politically correct but economically wrong, right?? Over to you Himanshu and Sumit!

:))

Its time the government give some answers to the people. The people should use thier right to information clause and make sure that the government pays for their wrong doings.

Markand they could have done so many things to people to appease them for the support they showed during the elections, not by some statues and which has costed ridiculously 10k crores....they could've done many things which would have helped people a lot and you know that...just to  be on the yes side to keep the  debate going don't deny the fact.....

IT IS NOT AT ALL TOLERATED.

How can a government servant spend so much on his/her statues when 50% of the population is living below poverty line. It is stupidity. Politicians who are not educated and runs on the caste and religion biases can lead to country downfall. The state which she is governing is well known for these caste biases people are illiterate and gets into the trap of these politicians.

10000 Cr is good sum of amount to develop a residential colony, to construct a flyover or other development processes, which is the need of this time.

What statues will do a birds place to shittttttttttttttttttttttt.

True Himanshu, there should be complete transparency of how the tax payers money is used by the government.

Spending thousands of crores on irrevelent things and stealing large amount of money from that proposed budget also has become their habit because they know no one is going to oppose them apart from opposition party, who themselves were corrupt in their ruling time.

Same thing happened, congress opposed this and mayawati is hitting their loophole Rajghat Expenditure.

How can something like this be justified Sumit, the idea of spending 10,000 crore on something like creating parks and their own statues is not at all acceptable, this is what happens when people elect someone like her, who don't even have proper education i guess.....we can't just blame her for this we need to blame people also who have elected her in the first place and the Government which is taking no action against these things that are happening time and again....these politicians are taking everything for granted, and even people are not raising their voice against such injsutice that is happening to them and still show the "Chalta hai" attitude...the bottom line is people are electing them and then they are funding these things by themselves by paying tax......I think what we need is a complete transparency of how the tax payers money is used...everything should be made accountable for...one can't do these things in the name of development.........
