After jet airways now its the turn of Air India where its pilots are on a indefinite strike and the common man is worried to see their travel plans going awry this festive season, with almost 50% of Air India’s flights set to be hit on Tuesday and the number likely to rise following the failure of talks between pilots and CMD Arvind Jadhav. In fact, the AI management was contemplating declaring an indefinite lockout after the talks collapsed. And after aviation minister Praful Patel prevailed on the airline to give talks another chance and not go in for such drastic action.

The stance is to hike the salary as the pilots are given just 8000 per month according to the news reports, with such less salary for pilots how can one do justice to their families, and this has made the tiff between the pilots and the management, and now it is causing all the trouble for the travellers and one after the other the incidents are repeating.

What do you think people was strike the only solution for the Air India pilots?

Pro and con

I dont beleive That the pilots salary is 8000/month!!!!!!

Did anyone miss a Zero after 8?/???

There is something wrong there. If the pilots salary is just 8000(8 thousand) then either the pilots are fools or they may not be Certified Pilots

If the salary is that bad -It is fair on their part to go on strike.but again I dont think that the salary is......... Its a shame and in that case i dont think Air India will have a single pilot working for them from the time other Pvt airlines chipped in.

I do feel that they are paid a hefty salary and Air india staff are not service minded so i prefer they all can go home(8000=sitting idle no big deal) and fresh pilots can be infused as well as cabin staff.

the pilots are governed by trade union act ::: quite strange :: pilots job is a perfectionists job ::

no tom , dick or harry can be a sucessful pilot ::

IAF spends app 100 crores on making one fighter pilot ::

By the way :: the pilots of AI or any other airline should resort to slow flying to drive home their point ::

if the plane reaches late at the destination :: cyclonic effect :: missed meetings , schedules :: chaos generation ::

This is totally in the   hands of management and has nothing go to do with pilots, who will work for 8000 as a salary, i would not probably, and that to a pilots job is a very important one and it is sad that these people are getting paid so low, the management could have avoided the whole thing, but they didn't resort to their stand and did not increase the salary...so i think the pilots are justified in carrying out the strikes, but this is causing a real inconvinience to the travellers, so it would be great if the management and pilots solve the problem soon enough to make sure that everything returuns to normal the way it was before.

I would like to correct a mistake in the information given as guidline for the argument. It is stated a Pilot is paid only 8000 rupees where as todays Business Line informs us that the pay is around 108000 for senior Pilots and others around 80000. So I believe there should be a feasible business model for Airlines.

They should ask the piolots to say work for 50000/month and share in the profits, hopefully the Accountants will comply. Then Airlines should price it using elasticity of demand so that all flights will be fully booked. Even price reductions initialy can see fully booked status for flights.

STRIKE CAN NEVER SOLVE A PROBLEM.ITS NOT A CIVILISED WAY OF DEALING WITH PROBLEMS.AIR INDIA IS CARRING TO MUCH STAFF MORE THAN ITS REQUIREMENT.ITS CRAETING BURDEN ON THE OTHER EMPLOYEES AND COMPANY TO PAY SALARY.ITS A COMMON PHENOMENA.STRIKE CAN NEVER SOLVE ANY PROBLEM.

Even a Sweeper in a Government Office gets close to Rs.9000/month as salary maybe it includes some withholdings. Then I feel the Pilots are paid very low salaries.

In US when I was there they had the same problem in many Airlines and Airlines like TexasAir and foreclosed. Then when it came to the turn of Continental they appointed a tough CEO, Fran Lorenzo and what he did was he went down to the employes and begged to co-operate and work on low salaries. They did withdrew  from strikd work and the Airline took off and still it is in action I believe as one of the largest Airline there.

I believe this is a fouled up situation, the management not willing to get down to their knees and beg and the cost of living is too high for anyone to live on such megre salaries here. Probably some solution has to be found out which is amicable to both.
