Winston Churchill... said 64 yrs ago

His argument against granting India freedom...
"Power will go to the hands of rascals ,rogues, freebooters; all
Indian leaders will be of low caliber & men of straw. They will have
sweet tongues & silly hearts. They will fight amongst themselves for
power & India will be lost in political squabbles. A day would come
when even air & water would be taxed in India."

My view is: It is better to rule in hell than serve in heaven. We may be corrupt, inefficient, mean people with khap panchayats, honour killings and what all the social evils one can imagine, but we are our own masters. We are not under a Gora sahib. The Delhi Metro is just about 5 or 6 years old. London Metro is 220 years old. See the difference! Naye parindo ko udne me waqt to lagta hai; pyaar ka pehla khat likhne mein waqt to lagta hai.

Winston Churchill would have used sophisticated statement had he seen India in 2011, but would still have stuck to the point he mentioned. We have mis-interpreted democracy, "free for all"; "learned" in the parliament are replaced by "illiterates and hooligans"; "law-makers are law-breakers"; "I'm elected by people's verdict, therefore, I have say in every matter, no one has a right to question me"; "I am superior, I did not do it, but I've coalition compulsion, I'm sorry, I've onerous duty to protect them, I don't care even if the country is in the verge of losing its sovereignty"; "you do your duty fearless, caveat: treat good people (my people) with dignity and do not harass them"; "I'm indebted to my political boss, because she has gracefully vacated her position to me to guard it very very carefully till her son matures and takes over the position from me"; "don't question me, I'm blind, I'm deaf, and I'm dumb"; "I'm like a parrot, I'm not supposed to speak on my own - my words and deeds are measured"; and so on so forth! Yes. Winston Churchill was right!

I agree, When we discuss the current scenrio with the old people, they always smile and say colonial rule was good. In an daily news paper the road plan which was developed during british rule is now been studied and cost analysis is done for mumbai. This is just an example how crocked is our political leaders are. they just grab the oppotunity !

Yes. We have worked very hard in proving him right - with everybody putting in overtime. Now is the time to prove him wrong and save ourselves. Maybe Anna Hazare is the beginning. Wish he succeeds and we benefit. Hope is life.

hmm. He even said that India would be divided into segment and be Under-developed. People always give examples of developing countries which have become developed i.e Singapore or Malaysia but you have to see the history into this as India wasn't aligned to the 2 superpowers. We might be developing slowly but do not have to follow orders.

What can we expect from A Kings Prime Minister. He called Indian soldiers to join with them To fight against NAZIS. His estimate to politicion may be true ,that too after1975.While Indira gandhi turned up to emergency for her sake all the tables turned up.Even because of our young energetic people We emerged to growth. We sent lunar spaceships within 60years of freedom and found water in moon. How our youth pushed up the economy to growth, like that they will pull down these to politicion to earth.

Certainly not.

India has progressed , though not as much as all of us would have liked.

But when you consider the other countries which got their independence from Britain , India has not done too badly , given the handicaps of religion , language and population.

Britain itself , with none of these handicaps , has not done any better !
