The Quickfire cricket format Indian Premier League's brand value has more than doubled to USD 4.13 billion (over Rs 18,000 crore), and all the current team valuations have soared like anything and all team owners are happy about it.

Yesterday, two new IPL teams were launched. The Sahara Adventure Sports Group's Pune bid at USD 370 million while the Rendezvous Sports World Limited's Kochi bid at USD 333.33 million. These two teams are the costliest in IPL among all other teams till date. And the base price itself starting at 225 million which was 5 times more than when IPL started, It all seems a bit too exaggerated at the moment with so much money being pumped in to  buy new teams. So, I would like to ask you all, Do you think two new IPL team bids justified or was is it exaggerated?

In the previous two years, when IPL matches were started, even the investment of 100 million USD was considered too high amount which was proved to be a very small amount in comparision to the expenditures on this year's matches. Maybe this time this two IPL teams is looking very costly. But in the long run, they would also look a very small amount.

Friends,

You are basing it relatively ie on comparative scale to previous.

What I am wondering at is: if the bubble bursts!!! How good is the valuation.

For sure Mr Suraj,

If we could, we surely would is not it the truth. After all you and I do not work hard and pay taxes for being taken for a ride day in and out for someone's luxuries and at cost of millions of hungry stomachs that are more noticed by us than them.

Yeah Mr. Ravindra, I think if we have to go as per your view, the first think that is tobe stopped is all these elections that is being fought by all ruffians and criminals and gives them to do any illegal things legally. Starting from Parilamentary elections to the panchayat elections, the amount that is being spent on it is not compared to what is being done at IPL.

Also after the elections these so called national leaders use the tax money(the money made by indians) for their own use which looks more criminal .

I think No amount is Big and no amount is small it’s all about your thinking it’s like a market you where you  never know that what point is good for purchase and  what point is good for sell Because when the sensex  was in 8000 mark people were  saying that  there is more space in down side but when it reached 12000 marks again same people started  to say that now market will not move more then this point …. But fact is that the market is now 17500 and still people are buying …why because you never know that what is the right price …as same in IPL Team auction what ever both company have offered nothing is wrong in it because they the investors not a traders  and they have better Idea about the right price and they have done  the same as they have to do as smart investor .

Yes. It is justified. At least businessmen are now aware that there is nothing wrong to earn while enjoying cricket. Ultimately, Cricket is the best solid form of sending strong advertisements of products to the public at large in India. hence, it is jsutified.  vijay m. vaghela

Well for me it is justified as we should not look at it only from the sports or money point of view but also how it is helping generate jobs for people.

When IPL2 was organized in South Africa...in those two months 10000 people got a chance to work for it...if it happened in SA then just hink what it can do for Indians.

Also India is getting the new image on world forum. We talk only about EPL and NBA but look at the other side that due to IPL we will gain more weightage world forum

I justified this because IPL is merely buisiness...IN indian income most from the service sector..This invest will benefit the service sector and finally amount invested in the indian market..

A bid's value is decided between bidder and the org which places the proposal for the bid. Both of them will be looking for their own monetary beneifts and other benefits too. Now the teams are positions well.

If they are content with it and be optimisits it is sure to bring profits it in once year

The sales rvenues from IPL matches from each location must be utilised to the exten of AT LEAST 50% for the Below Poverty Line programmes in that respective region. Or else, this mkind of fun ill befits a poor democracy that India is. We need new, responsible media to educate the general public on the need to do this, and generate and consolidate public opinion for this, we also need statesmanly leaders in politics and intellectuals who are now engrossed with theorising and siding with causes of no worth to the people.. (However the administration of the funds must be left to volunteer groups not committed to religious expansion of their flocks on the sly.

Yes. Cricket is the only Game- well comed by Indian from the age of 2 years till 106 years old. Marketing through IPL shall always proved fruitfull. Please Note that common men- 39 Crores direct consumers- do no work by Night- hence, they are attached with TV and particularly attached with Cricket- time schedule, Management, varieties and Enjoyment of watching Matches and getting results in Four Hours- are are suitable to deliver the products to Indian Masses. IPL is best for marketing any products- consumer durables to Core sector industries in India and south asia- world at large. . Vijay M. Vaghela

Thanks for the referral Mr.Namrata. While supporting your argument, you know what is going in my mind that is it necessary to spend a huge and fatty volume of money on this segment. No doubt it is a matter of prestige of our country in spending for cricket, but the same is not given to other games, even our national game. In case such a large amount of money is spent on our country's development projects & Research and Development, every Indian will feel proud.

Yes. The valuation is justified. Though the figure seems a bit exaggerated at present valuation. Within 3 years of inception, the brand value of IPL rose to USD 4.3 Billion. This shows that there is more room for improvement in valuations in future years. Moreover, as IPL gets mature year-on-year, the valuations of the franchisee's are going to increase substantially. Second thing, most of the owner's of different franchisees' have invested in teams to get more brand visibility. If you see Kingfisher, it already owns Royal challengers Bangalore but still sponsors 5 other teams. Also, from the revenue point of you, this year TRP for first match have gone up by more than 200% compared to first n second editions, also revenue from the in-stadium ad rates are on the rise. Tickets are getting sold out as hot cakes. So, in conclusion, i would say, the amount paid for the two new teams are high, the value derived from brand awareness and other revenue sources are substantial.

Such valuation is definitely not justified. It is worst than stock market speculation.

The way in which cricket is being played by many players, except Sachin, and few others, there is no true technical approach to the game. Reasons:-

1. It is highly appalling to see that most players, try to turn every other ball a ‘sixer’ and get dismissed often than not. If someone cares to look at the statistics, there are more number of dismissals due to catches on ‘sixer’ tries than actual sixes. So most of the players are gambling for quick runs with less than even chance, instead trying to flick the ball towards the ground and get some runs out it.

2. In the end over, when the opponent has many wickets in hand, the bowlers instead of trying to restrict the runs, bowls for the wicket with full tosses and ‘wides’ and give away lots of runs and end up in losing the game.

3. In the end overs, the tail end batsmen instead of trying to take "1" run and pass on the batting to an already established senior batsmen, stand there and blindly hit every ball and lead the game to perish. May be Sreeshant’s  and few other new comer's batting ventures are  typical examples of it. If one is unable to learn from observing the reviews themselves, the coach or the captain or the team owner should correct them.

If the game continues like this for long, the game becomes a eye sore and most of the game lovers will lose interest in the game. Unless the players, the team, and the promoters make a scientific approach to improve the game, most of the investors of IPL will bite dirt sooner not so far in the future.

In the above perspectives, the current bids for the 2 new IPL teams are definitely much beyond justification, in the business point of view. If someone has real money to throw away for the love of the game, none need have any qualms about it, neither do I have.

Mr. Ravindra, I do not want to oppose your statement, but i always think and get concerned about the fact that if these luxurious expenses are avoided, will it go to the betterment of our society or will it be still somebody else will be enjoying this amount to their benefit.

But at least due to this, there are certain section of people who are having their income besides the franchisees, franchisor and the cricket players. If you go near a stadium you can see how many families are also getting their income due to this extravaganza !!!

Dear Shailesh,

The jobs you are talking about are at best seasonal. If you are talking about EPL or NBA these countries hosting or participating do not have the distinction of hunger stricken citizen's anywhere near match even with their total populace.

It is not necessary that whatever is good for developed world has to be good for us. Look at Makrand's viewpoint as well.

it is exaggerated!!

I simply wonder if these volumes of money were pumped into the INFRASTRUCTURE funds all India basis what would the outcome be?? What happens if these teams never win the IPL T20 title?? Is the ridiculous amount of money justified?? Who are these teams going to finally play in their playing 11?? I wonder... I really wonder...

Injustice!! Thats what my viewpoint is!! :)
