Rural regions, where nearly 70% of India's population resides, accounted for 34% of the off take for FMCG products. Since urban regions are already matured, the rural region is expected to be the key growth driver. What you say ?

The growing rural market is presenting new oppertunities to the business. Large part of the Indian population (More than Half) still lives in rural areas. Vast amount of population, increasing effects of social media, government incentives and programs for the development of rural areas, emphasis on local-employment, growing purchasing power of rural folks and changing lifestyle of these peoples are the main positives of rural markets for consumers. The impact of globalisation is being felt in rural India. The untapped Indian rural market offers a great chance for the branded products as well as service sector.

nowadays, the rural areas are consuming a large quantity of industrial and urban manufactured products. This is making more marketers to enter rural regions. And rural market is getting more importance because of the saturation of the urban market.

However, the rural market is full of oppertunities still rural marketing becomes a task for the companies as every company is trying to make millions out of it. Everyone is trying to utilize the untapped potential in the rural market which was hitherto unseen and unexplored. Though rural markets are a huge attraction to marketers, it is not easy to enter the market and take a sizeable share of market.Illiteracy, seasonal demand, less infrastructure fascilities, traditional life, limited needs, less exposure, communication problem presents serious challenges for the marketers to go for rural marketing. The rural marketer will need a different kind of marketing strategy for rural consumers as the lifestyle and demand of rural folks differs considerably. Due to the bad infrastructure fascilites like transportation, electricity, roads it is really difficult to reach remote locations. The infrastructure plays tougher role for logistics and logistics plays an important role to reach the product in the market. Because of lack of communication, there will be more number of fake products in the market. There are lot of companies which have faced imitation of their products. Most of the products are sold in the haats as the organised market doesnot reach there. The concept of rural marketing in India is still in evolving shape, and the sector poses a variety of challenges.Distribution costs and non-availability of retail outlets are major problems faced by the marketers.
