JV needs more dedication and yes sir back stabbing approach kills it all. The end result of a well set JV with values gives more value.

i think a JV between two companies can only be successfull, only when there is a good understanding between the top management and they have the same vision for the project or two companies might get into a JV only to qualify for the project and then divide the work among themselves so there rises no problems among them or the working staff.

There are a lot many JV's are successful in India. In order to sustain the JV along with growth both the partners should be honest to each others for mutual benefits.

supporting JVs may be successful once the JV agreement has a clearer picture and incorporates clauses which may be used at appropriate times in an event of dispute between the JV partners.

Nobody can avoid disputes between JV partners since nobody can see future hiccups in understanding between them or in the management issues. But if the AOA of the spv and the shareholder agreement/JV agreement is drafted in such a way to get out of such hiccups or disputes, eventually the JV shall be fruitful and the end results shall be received. 

legal stuffs always play a vital role in JVs.

In today's scenario, JVs and Consortium approach are successful in various infrastructure projects. Both the parties should have well-defined "Terms of Reference" and should not interfere in each other's core competence, and more importantly, absolute transparency in every dealing (many a times we see "back-stabbing approach that jeopardize the interests)!
