Dear Raghavan, It is not the question of branding in a particular sector or in India, the question is branding on worldwide scenario on account of various factors. No doubt, Bharti has got a stake in telecom sector, even it cannot beat TATA in it reputation on socio-economic field. If some one conducts a real time survey or a social audit on a widee scale even in India, I don't think any other company can beat TATA on branding aspect. Ethics has its own value, which we can expect from TATAs, besides a few other handful companies only.

I don't think only foreign acquisition can make any brand a valuable brand in "India”. No doubt Bharti is doing good and exploring each aspect to get and set on the status of a valuable brand.

yes, why bcoz in TATA T stands for Trust and they are banking on trust of their consumers and we people are trusting TATA because from decades their motto is not only profit but welfare of country. and second thing is it is the only group in which chairman or his family has very less amount of shares or holdings in the group and remaining is with the group. thirdly TATA is the group which is serving us in variety of goods which no other group or their competitors are ...

Dear Padmaja, Your observation may definitely get changed, if you try to trade in Reliance shares. The Reliance owners and other big operators have filled their own coffers only at the cost of small investors. They make the trading of Reliance share so vibrant and dynamic that a small investor must lose his money and all the money ultimately goes in to the lap of the Reliance owners and big operators. That is why I have stated in my previous post that the company must have social value also, not only the grabber of money, but also the giver of values to the common man of the society.

I think it is very late that BrandFinance has been able to wake up from asleep to recognize the brand value of TATA. As the name of the branding company"BrandFinance" indicates, the firm seems to be adopting purely financial driven approaches and not the social values of the brands, i.e., what a company enjoys that socially in addition to financial soundness. In my views, TATA had been enjoying the best brand value since decades back, may be from century back. Simply dominance over stock market should not be the criteria for brand valuation. What ethical value TATA owns, reliance can never compete on that aspect due to selfish motives of the biggest stake holders. While TATA cares for the social audit and social values and giving back to the society, reliance on the other hand believes only in grabbing from the society very tactically. Evidently, brand evaluation in favor of Reliance earlier had been only due to partial facts, not based on over-all evaluation.

Dear Dhingra Ethics has got no relation to branding here. Do you mean to say Bharti as a company doesnt have ethics. Nope you are wrong. The other reason for my saying TATA is not that big a brand is becuase it was a sleeping gaint so long alomst like a PSU. It didnt think of acquiring or expanding their business al these years and when it came to the crunch, it was forced to resort to foreign acquisition.

I would rate Bharti Airtell as a far more valuable brand than TATA's. Yes, definitely TATA has acquired Rovers but dont forget Bharti has also got a stake in MTN telecom and is looking for more such avenues.

In today's times yes, they have leap frogged to the first position, but just imagine how much money has reliance made to its investors till date and apart from this year they have held this spot for a long period, this shows what Reliance as a brand is all about and its portfolio companies are doing really well at the moment and they have made wealth and also created wealth for others, where as others have created wealth for themselves and also are a game of monopoly. And people should just not go by numbers and should also consider, how much the company has made value for their investors. And where does the brand stand in future.
