Any product that you launch needs to undergo the process of branding first. Its obvious that every product is launched as per the segmented target market. Without a proper branding...process the product will literally fail.

Both are important. To promote a product branding is very important at the same time, segmentation of market is also of the importance. They are not mutually exclusive.

Product Segmentation is a base for any healthy life of a product. A product to get accpted and bought in the market needs to be targeted at the right TG. Branding comes secondary ie after setting a right TG for your product. Without accurate product segmentation, branding would not help in the product to survive

Both have its own area of concern. product segmentation is internal process which further paves the way for branding. Branding is for consumer. Without segmentation and targeting, Branding is like hitting the bulls eye in dark. But branding gives the life to the product. it positions its personality, attributes, quality, image, trust and so on in the mind of consumer. Branding decides the life of the product in short as well as long term.
