Broadband penetration and speed in India is is very low compared to other developed and developing countries. What does India really need to boost the broadband usage in India? Is it the broadband penetration or speed? Share your valuable opinions...

In my opinion India need to increase the broadband penetration and even have to reduce the price, if we want to see a cyber revolution in India. The high cost of broadband is the main reason which prohibits many users from accessing Internet in India. Currently, the cost of broadband in India is 260 times higher than in South Korea, while in China it is 65 times higher. South Korea offers the world's cheapest broadband rates.

actually this is the fact, but India always uses the foreign satellites if we use our own network and satellite then n then only the cost goes lower. If cost reduced then penetration increases.

The cost can also be reduced if government supports to ISP's. They are very dependent on government. Like subsidy, or helps in satellite networks, then this ISP's installation cost will reduce. If this happen then automatically end users price will get reduce.

What do you think?

Whenever we talk about technology in India, we tend to forget that a vast majority lives in technical exile, unaware of the basics which we all urban folks now take for granted. We all know that before we think of enhancement of anything, we must be sure that the basic idea is already well recieved, which is not the case for Broadband. A lot of people in India don't even know that anything of this sort exists, hence the priority should be awareness through penetration. Broadband penetration will be a driver for high speeds, vice versa doesn't seem to be true.Increased penetration will surely increase the usage which will in turn push the service providers to provide better speeds and quality.

India needs penetration!

Broadband should be considered as necessity for every Indian where as speed may be important for some.

More connected Indian will mean more information in the hands of common people and greater benefit for those who want to reach them through mails and advertisement.

Those who realise the importance and value, I am sure will not mind to pay for speed.

I too agree with that. There is no point in giving an internet connection with pathetic speed. Both need to grow simultaneously.

I would think that the underlying infrastructure need to be strengthened to be resilient and for at least the next 20 or 30 years.

It is just debate, the rural sector is so neglected in our country, they do not have basic power and telephone service which are un-interrupted, first let the government provide these two which are basic essentials, then think of both penetration and speed?

India needs broadband penetration first and then speed.Basically both simultaneously. The point is with penetration ; infra will get built and then we can make up for speed. Howz That !

The proliferation of broadband can make many products and services cheaper. For a country slated to become a superpower, the Internet connection must be always on, fast and available at a reasonable price. We need a faster internet for the growth of industries.
