what is best storage for chat and other comments in forums and chat application

Right now i am working on a discussion form, i also add a chat application in it .the main problem against me that where should i store all the chat, is't there any other storage to store all the comment and chat in the discussion form.

Database(sql,oracle etc) is the only reliable and compatible Vs There is many other storage methods.
