If you want an advice go for swimming.. because we have to choose from these two options.. Swimming helps in losing weight and each muscle of body will get exercise here if you adapts different styles .. Other than this I would suggest Yoga.. In long term YOGA is the best..

My expereince says swimming is not good but best for fitness compared to gym and any other exercise. In other exercises you have to take care of whole body should get harmonised otherwise there may be adverse effect. In swimming when u have to float in water by-default all body parts keep their best contribution for swimming.

Swim and you will swim your way through all the diseases that arise out of obesity/non-balanced diet etc.

i support swimming as its a complete exercise which means all the body ,internal as well as extenal, excercises while swimming. Also the most important component of the body is heart.Swimming increases the cardiac output of the heart so your body works better. Moreover the lung capacity improves with swimming.Hence swimming has an advantage over gym or any other physical activity.

It is an all round holistic exercise for the body unlike gym, where breathing is co-ordinated with movements of the whole body as a whole where not only the external parts of the body are exercised but also the internal organs are also exercised. in gym exercises are focused to certain part of the body and more strenuous compared to swimming. swimming is a seemless exercise compared to gym. once you stop gym you tend put on weight or become sluggard .

The body type and energy profile of a person will decide which one is better. So it varies from person to person. Swimming is a total exercise which helps a total growth of the body if supplemented with balanced diet and adequate rest. It's stress reliever too. For growth, toning and shaping of specific muscles Gym is need. Swimming is more calorie and energy shading so more hours are needed for resting. For short time exercise Gym alongwith Yoga (Sahaj Pranayam, breathing exercise) is better.

It is not necessary that Only Swimming can help to maintain a Good Body. Regular Exercise, Balanced Diet, Drinking 6-8 Glasses of Water etc., keeps the body cool and perfect.
