There is nothing like job security in present environment where every body got shattered by last recession, irrespective of the industry type and creditibility in market. So have good salary keep excess money as saving and keep working with dedication till next recession comes.

Granted that pay is more important but i dont see how one can have one and not the other. If you dont get paid regularly, your job security is automatically threatenned. and if your job security is threatened, sooner or later you dont get paid right?

Definitely its payment i.e, the remmuneration for the work one performs signifying his or her skill in requisite field and area. Payment for any work i.e, labour hour in India like developing countries is damn less in comparison to other countries still one gets a good salary, perk, offer. Ready reference in this regard could be campus selection ay IIM and other Bscholls as well IITs etc. Job security is restricted to only Govt. jobs. We human beings are sent to prove ourselves and any organization hiring us wishes to see us first giving them and taking in return. So why not get as much payment. If we dont get suffiecient money, we can quit simply and join some other growing and blooming industry or organization in the same industry.....

Gargi Ji, You are right but answer my one question. If you have a job security but you are not able to meet all the expances to the fullest and on the other hand you have a pay so high that you are not able to meet all the expances but you are left with a good amount of money. Than I think you will agree with Mr. Kiran. Moreover If your CV shows a good salary than your prospective employer will hesetate twice to offer you lesser than the one already drawn. So by you getting a good salary once. You are assured of if not more but atleast nearer to the one you have already drawn. As far as the security part is concerned if your employer is bent upon kicking you out of the organisation than he finds some way or the other to do his mind. So where is the security.

Pay is more important for highly skilled and Qualified personality. As unless and untill he gets satisfied with his pay he will never join the firm /company/organization. And the chapter of Job security comes after the point of Pay is discussed and satisfied. And ofcourse on the basis of satisfactory pay he gets self motivated and the result in found on his work through Performance Appraisal and slowly slowly to perform best becomes his self esteem need. I hope that if am Employee works for self esteem the output will be uncalculative and the result will be not only Job Security but such personality will be " Highly in Demand " and will become BRAND OF COMPANY.

Certainly job security is more important that the pay. Of course, it is having its own disadvantages. However, if security is there people can concentrate more on the job rather than any other things. If job security is not there, everyday the person has to be there with fear of security, therefore the performance of the person will be decreased. Security gives more confidence.

Why there is mad rush for low paid government jobs? Even for posts like clerks we see post graduate and engineering candidates apply in thousands. And this situation has never changed. The primary reason being the job security that the government job offers. We still do not see people bribing heavily to get private highly paid jobs.

"The community involvement, leadership and career initiatives developed by organizations such as SIFE play an important role in helping their participants develop skills that set them apart from the average university student," he added. "Employers that focus on making their organization a great place to work and build a career will likely be more attractive to students seeking their first job.

Oh ... though a very touchy topic, question in this style are difficult to answer. The ideal situation will be combination of both but that rarely happens or we ourselves dont allow it to happen. In this world of uncertinities, one may say, nothing is absolutely "secured". Technology is fast changing, economies, and Economy of a country or of the globe is changing ( change is the only certain thing ). Even if I opt for lower pay, may I have job security ? Does the HR fix pay in this fashion ? Barring some exceptions, Cos have two seperate policies in regard to pay and 'security'.

hi..... can somebody please explain what exactly job security means? work profile/ working in big company/ benefits or .........??? In my point of view, sticking to one point is always not correct option. It just depends on the situation. When the companies don't have a common criteria - why should we generalize these things? For example - A big company need not to have same employment policies across the globe, ryt??

I don't find any reason to go on a debate between these two....I think if one has seriously feel the recession time of 2002 and 2009 he will always go for Job Security Just to add I am a Btech from Kharagpur and I never got a fear for job but when u see the plight of many of ur friends/relatives it really hearts. And if you talk about skills and quality and let's assume that you got those.. but I am also sure that you cannot ask for packages/rewards and talk about ur performance, motivation while hearing the screams of others

Actually it is both with pay being the primary target. Having said that one cannot forget job security - given the volatile market conditions today. But then once you have accepted a job at a low salary, you will always be pegged at that and it could harm your career further as you move on. Also it will become difficult to negotiate at the table when you have already accepted a job that pays you lesser than the market rate. In a growing economy pay would take a bigger consideration than job security because of the plentiful jobs available around. So one has to gauge the circumstances and the market conditions existing before going for either a high paying job or for one that gives security. In jobs like sales & technical fields, one can always wager for a higher salary because of the opportunities available whereas in manufacturing or IT, job security would be of paramount importance.

Even if you you get employment offer for more than 15 to 20% to the present salary and benefits and the company has a consistent record of terminating employees after a short while, what is the use of getting those benfits and where you will stand once you do not have job. Therefore a company providing job security is more reliable and consistent than a company have a bad record of termination / retrenchment / dismissal etc.

I think most of the professionals opt for job security especially after the recession had hit almost all industries heavily. People may fear such a condition can occur at anytime again and give preference to their job stability and security

How can one assure Income Security without job security. Anyway, there has always been those who believe in job security over higher income and those who always believe in higher income over a secured job. When adverse times like sectoral downturn or an outright economic recession, the First to suffer would be those who went on changing jobs due to higher pay breaks. And those who have been loyal to a single organisation or with long stint of employment would be the last to be sacked, if at all.

I dont agree with Kiran... Job security is a top priority for anyone today (Gen X or Gen Y). Everybody wants to make more money but if we survey that what is important Job Security or Money 90% people would say Job Security. I can make more money if i have a secured job but if I run only after money and not job security I will make good money for some years but after that "No money no honey". As rightly said by Gargi for frequent job hoppers company would think twice before hiring this person because there is no stability in this guy and he has hopped jobs only for few thousands in past. Guys stay tuned with your companies growth and money will follow.
