Holding a job is always preferable but if salary part is not matching with your qualification and expertise then it is bound to give you pain throughout your job tenure. So both are important.

i prefer to be neutral or both, becos doing jobs have different perspective for different people ,some wants to support their family so they do job some wants to grow financialy ,some wants o pass time, some wants satisfacction,so its not universal people have got better ways to earn then entirely depending on jobs salary

What is key to happiness holding a job or the salary part of it?? ,The emerging results showed that job security , personal health and relationships with family members were at the top of most people's concerns, and were cited by nine out of 10 of those responding to the ONS consultation. Other key ingredients of a happy life were parents' sense of security of their children's future, with couples keen that their children have a good life and a nice place to live; the freedom of society; and spiritual and religious beliefs, the Telegraph reports.

Guys, Its not important to hold to a Job which you are not happy with, no matter how much salary they pay, think of people like Larry Page , Sergey Brin (Google founders), it was their interest in Search Engine Algorithms and Faster data processing which revolutionized internet and made Google, think of long term goals , think of generating employment rather than being a salaried person lifetime (unless you want to be a Government Babu)... shift in attitude is what we would need

I agree with darshana 100% . as being unemployed is kind of social stigma, & it definitely affects one's confidence level. & again as HR or company point of view you must have strong reason to justify the gap/break you have taken. as they say "bachenge to aur bhi ladenge" if u have a stable job , then u can ask for the raise.

Darshana I agree with you but at the same time since somebody is holding a job, only in exceptional cases there is a salary cut for all. Yes in case somebody dont have a job then it becomes a big problem as a whole.

Holding a job or the salary part is not the happiness I am talking about. The concept lies purely in an individual. I do not care about jobs and salary, I have farm land back home and I know I can survive, contentment is purely individualistic. As i said in my earlier post, it is human behavior, not human nature, we pick up all those things which are prevalent in today's society like-crime, jealousy, bigotry, competition et al are all the part and parcel of the society. Our Education is such that, from the early stage of an individuals life we are programmed is a way to serve the "HIERARCHY", honestly, I would like to ask each and every individual, is this what you want to do in your life? We are prepared for a job keeping in mind the current situation and it is pathetic. With advancement of technology we can achieve what we are capable of. With technology, almost 90% of employment will vanish, machine will do it for us.If a person is a painter, he would love to gift it to someone rather than selling it, (remember Vincent Van Gogh), that's what the Monetary Economy has done to us.i would like to end up with this beautiful line by Chetan Bhagat and I quote, "The amount of money that is in your Bank at the time of death, is the extra work you did that you should not have done". so true...

I don't think so.If they did not get proper salary why they will hold a job? If the key happinees only is to holding a job why people looking for another job, that suit thier self esteem as well thier financial motives. Self Esteem and Financial Motives goes hands in hands. Only when your all financial motives will be achieved then only you will hold a job.

People don't really go in for job's expecting happiness from it. They search for jobs that give high pay's. The happiness comes only when you say that "I've got a job with 12Lakh's P.A." and not when you say "I've got a superb job with Rs.74000 P.A". This proves the difference.. So, Salary gives the happiness!

if not salary, what holds you in a job. satisfaction - comes home at the end of the month. so salary holds more than job .

The reasons I am supporting the Salary are numerous. You have to look at this not from the angle of the NSO for whom the responses are plain statistics. The point is, when a person gets a job commensurate with his qualification, there is motivation to continue and do well. This results in the individual achieving the material comforts which he had aspired for at the time of/ while working towards obtaining such qualification. The growth comes after this. And with growth, liabilities, responsibilities and the need to do better both in monetary and social terms. This is the time when the definition of happiness changes. Happiness incidentally, is a dynamic attribute which has not been adequately addressed by people. Family, children, support structures, education, future, investments and the list can go on.No one ever wants his offspring to struggle the way he or she did. Every other aspect of being in this world and living honestly and respectably requires a reasonable source of income. Just holding on to the job even if it does not pay adequately will not work. Thanks for the invite and warm regards.
