Its time to focus on merit rather than reservation. People should be given equal importance in every fields. No more reservation, every activities from politics to education should be completely base on merits. Right person for the right fields is the key to success.

To compete with other countries and grow we should give up reservations..... :)

It certainly is merit. It can not be reservation. Here we are confusing contribution towards development of the country with the social aspect of the society. These two are different things altogether. Your status in the society is something which is personal. Whereas your contribution to the country is something which affects the whole of the country. We are right if give status to the underpriveleged. But education or employment require merit and merit only.

obviously Merit, But reservation is also equally important. Actually people are not able to make a balance or we can say proper implementation on these two. When it comes to learning or education the people who r really willing to learn but don't have enough financial support should be empowered with the help of reservation. But once it is done and it comes to doing the thing in practice, people should consider only merit, nothing else.....

Obviously it has to be Merit A person holding an important post on basis of reservation and lacking core knowledge will not be fruitful, but only if he has the merit to hold the post than it is OK. Meritorious people lack behind of Such. A country only Progresses when its Countrymen Progress

To even survive in the long term, let alone growth, any nation's economy needs to be competitive and then cutting edge - world best. To get performance, the people involved must be selected and nurtured on the basis of their personal performance - i.e. merit. There is no substitute for meritocracy.

While reservations is a social goal and laudable as such, in course of time this would without fail lead to failure. Unless the state can generate riches/wealth that is saleable all over the world with mediocre or no effort of the people who man the organizations, failure is certain. And how will that help either the non-meritorious or the meritorius then? Reservations except in a very, very short term sense, is disastrous. But unfortunately vote banks and populism are a dogma with our politicians...

We should not even think of that reservation can lead to growth and progres of any country because with reservation the deserving candidates cannot get the positions and this will affect every kind of work. Besides it is of no mean to give someone a position because of their caste/physical condition bacause at that position you hav to work & not your caste/physical condition.

The important factors for the growth and progress of the country is the basic infrastructure and the eco-system which engenders growth, equality and promotion of human virtues so that all the members can do their best and be recognized.

For this criterion to hold good, focus on merit is one aspect. However, the country has many disadvantaged members who cannot compete on merit as their background does not permit them to compete at an equal level. Thus, the reservation policy is basically to bring them on an equal footing so that they can compete with their higher level colleagues. However, in cases where the reservation system is abused, the factor directly responsible is corruption. This needs to be eradicated so that the environment can be improved.

Thus, at the macro level to resolve all these issues, it may take a long time.....

Merit has no place in this country as long as vote bank politics continues with the present day politics and politicians that is the reason why so much brain drain from this country and they are prospering outside.  This country takes pride that they are of indian origin when they achieve something in another country and the country does not make an analysis why these people have gone to another country.

I do support merit and always against reservation. I think reservation nowadays in our country  became a tumor of cancer. and only we youth can do this by strongly protesting such kind of things.

I strongly against the reservation system in our country at present time.

I support Merit and am strictly against reservation.

Even the post of Priests in Temples should not be reserved. Everything should be merit based and deserving candidate should be preffered always.

Merits and reservation &.C are all Indian concepts never tested out in the history of othe nations that got developed. The one that work is creating a nation of 'self improving type citizen' who can live by without compromising on their 'free will', who can be facilitated 'public consumption' rather one need to use private funds for everything churned out as consumables in public strata, citizens whose objectives are clearly visible not irrational types.

In a developed country and of a smaller magnitude the idea of "Merit" is definitely superior. But in a country like India this trickle down policy does not help in the Socioeconomic sense. It is blatantly clear that after more than sixty years of independence, except in some of the cities everywhere else the old, traditional, feudalistic, archaic , prejudiced and superstitious mind set still continues. There is every need for the government to intervene and kick start the true integration of the Indian populace. Only economic freedom can ensure this. And for this economic freedom the weaker section requires opportunities. And this is where reservations play an important role. But a word of caution, reservations should be based on socioeconomic considerations and not others for vote bank like religion etc.

Merit is certainly most important but for nurturing merit among under previleged sections of society, we need reservation to some extent for achieving inclusive growth. Growth can not be sustained if it leaves out a majority or a sizable portion of the society. Such lopsided growth would lead to social unrest and ultimately end up retarding the growth engine. Growth need to be with equity so as to sustain for a longer term.

However, this is not to advocate reservation based on cast or religion. It should be purely on economic critera or for merit suffering from some external disadvanges like proverty, physical challenges etc

The thing is people always think about the "ADVANTAGES" reserve categories get. Tell me one person out of this who has problem with Reservation AND who cares about the exploitation they face? When is comes to exploitation they BAN them from Temples and then raise their voice AGAINST Reservation!!!! Dr. B.R.Ambedkar had the knowledge that a very less about may b about 1 or so % people had or will have ever in our countries history.

Hi ravali.. i am supporting you till one level .. but reservation is made for that type of people who is abt one decade back with current situation(it may be  education or any other field). So country is giving a chance to grow up but now a days reservation is become a  vote bank  of leader.
