I am not sure what the context is , but emotions are absolutely essential. Without emotions , you might as well replace humans by robots. In fact the word "automaton" refers to someone who does not have any emotions.

Can we imagine a society without the good qualities of sympathy , kindness , or even pity ?

Why do we condemn ragging in schools and colleges ? Because ragging generally involves actions without any emotions behind them. Why do we condemn torture ? For the same reason.

Without emotions , life is not worth living.

I think mind is more important. because emotion has no place in this world. the person who had emotion for others specially in professional world is called emotional fool. So people in profession just think about their profit without any concern to emotion of others.

Emotions creates erratic chemical reactions in our mind. This makes a man behave erratically. He looses his temper and behaves unsteadily. Thus emotions have its impact on mind. The mind controls the total body. It is not that easy to keep the mind under control. But, if one attains this ability, he will be the saint. He can do anything.

Mind is like a monkey, hopping from one tree to the other! Emotion is related to "attachment". It is not desirable to hold "attachment"! What is more important than Mind and Emotion is "Intellect", that will help overcome any situation!
