Salary is something you negotiate once and take home once every thirty days. Job satisfaction keeps you happy every minute of every day. So ideally a good balance of both is required. But there is no doubt in my mind that, of the two, JOB SATISFACTION IS DEFINITELY MORE IMPORTANT.
It is the one thing that keeps you motivated. If you are motivated, you perform better and you grow. If you grow, you become even more satisfied.
Anurag amazing debate, it would have been more exciting if you have mentioned the sides clearly and given some description.
According to me salary is more important compared to job satisfaction. When you are paid good salary you will automatically perform good in your job and will try to give your best. It acts a motivating force to do your job.
If you are satisfied with your ,up to some extent it means you are happy with the salary you are getting.
If you are getting very good salary, but you are not happy with the job environment or you are not enjoying it then you can't put your best to it.You can't stick to that job for a long time.
ultimate purpose of everyone is to keep themself happy and it could be possible only when you are satisfy and satisfaction comes when you are satisfy with your work.. so job satisfaction is more important then salary... By

I support Mr. Ramesh Kandadai views. Money can not give job satisfaction and peace of mind. If any one has only money motive then he has to frequently change his jobs. But on the contrary one has to change jobs for want of good organization also which is a different issue here. First, one has to develop the interest of learning more of his job/work in order to become tallented and thus becomes master of his work which makes him to enjoy his profession. Friends, as per our forefathers and our veteran seniors WORK IS WORSHIP and which makes a man to have the feeling of job satisfaction and peace of mind.
Job satisfaction is very important part as in daily routin if you are not satisfied with your job profile you will feel suffocated and it's tough to survive in suffocation .If you are satisfied you will have mentle peace and tension free life.
Now a days its east to get good salary but job satisfaction is very important & rare thing to get. As per my point of view a person can do compromise in salary is he/she is having job satisfaction now a days as per the global job market scenario job satisfactionn is one of the most important thing bcoz it is not only enhance the quality of work among the employee also make them more employable. JOB SATISFACTION ALWAYS when a painter paints a natural landscape its never tiring for him. when musician plays a music instrument its something to do with his soul .then why not any work can be done in a way so as to maintain personal interest or if we can't, then do whatever your instinct suggest. "In this materialistic world, there are lots of people who believe that salary is the most important consideration when choosing a job or a career. But on the other hand there is another group of people who believe that job satisfaction is the most important aspect above all else. Different people value different priorities in life. Some prefer financial well being, while others go for more ethical values such as happiness, job security and a stress free environment. My personal conviction on this issue is that job satisfaction over money should be the main consideration in any career. It goes without saying that money is an “engine” of everything, but sometimes it may not be enough to provide job satisfaction to the employees. By

According to me I consider job satisfaction is more improtant in order to motivate any employee. But for the clear understanding for all I would like to suggust you all to just review the maslow need hierarchy atleast once because according to that hierarchy motivational factors are different for the different level of persons, level in the sense the fulfillment level of that person... According to Maslow, money based incentives can be a motivating factor for the worker but to a manager it will not be a motivating factor to him, here prestige and delegation of authority will be the motivating factor for him.
Job Satisfaction Is Must....Bcoz If you feel free in job & interesting ,you can learn most of thing in no. of ways..and can implement this thing for future growth for money as well as knowledge from ur job
Job satisfactions is a bucket or bunch of different attribute where salary in one of the strong attribute. So without salary where is your job satisfaction. & if your satisfy with job it is sure that ur getting good salary as per ur choice. So with out salary no job satisfaction is there & if ur satisfy then salary is good.
Job satisfaction is more important.I'll like to say one thing, you'll not b satisfied with any salary, even if u get a salary worth more than ur work,u aspire for more salary.Thats human nature. But if u r happy with ur job then u will b happy with ur salary too.If the salary is so bad that u r unable to lead ur life then consider switching to a job where u are happy with the work and get a good salary..
I would favor both Job Satisfaction & Salary. In my opinion job satisfaction is more important in the beginning of the career wherein you are struggling to learn the processes in the company and gaining those skills required to move ahead since company spends a lot of amount on your training. But over a period of time with more and more responsibilities coming in we tend to give more importance to salary which is justified also as why would we being overutilized by the company when you are contributing your experience in growth of a company.
I’m planning to give a talk to a group of graduating college seniors later this month. One point I’d like to make is that it’s important to love your work. Nobody should work at a job they hate.
This is common advice, of course, but I also hear people say that it’s okay to work at a crummy job if it’s a stepping stone toward a larger goal. For example, yesterday Penelope at the Brazen Careerist wrote that you shouldn’t change careers for any of the following reasons:
I frowned when I read those last two points. As somebody who has spent the past fifteen years in a job he hates, I can attest that especially if you derive meaning from life outside work, non-meaningful work can be crushing. I get decent pay, good benefits, and a chance to work with my family, but because I don’t like the job itself, I’m unhappy. I’m actively attempting to change careers to something I love — writing — and I would encourage any young person to do the same.
Here’s some related reading:
Paul Graham: “How to do what you love”, a piece I’ve been wanting to discuss ever since I started this site.
San Francisco Gate: Why do you work so hard? “Is it maybe time to quit your safe job and follow your path and infuriate the establishment?”
I’ve just begun reading The 4-Hour Workweek, which touches on some of these issues. (Look for a review soon.)
What sort of advice would you offer to a young person just entering the work force? What’s the most important thing to look for in a job? Is money the top priority? Job satisfaction?
Is it better to be in a job you love that barely pays the rent, or to be making a fortune in a job that sucks your soul out and spits it on the floor? How can you tell what you love when you’re just starting out?
Correction: As a couple of you have pointed out, I did a lousy job of noticing that Penelope makes a distinction between a job and a career. My bad. The core question remains, despite my lack of reading comprehension.
Well Kriti, i intentionally didn't agrue. just need to know the views of people. I strongly believe job satisfaction is more and more important. it is my personal experience. If you are not satisfied with your job you won't be internally happy. i changes your psychology. Main objective of work is satisfaction and all feel that. if you have better salary you will of course spend and get satisfation by using that money in different tasks. so overall satisfaction is and should be purpose of all tasks. Thanks
If we are satisfied with our job then we work with whole enthusiasm and contentment...and if not satisfied we look for other job..so satisfaction of Job is most important than the salary..salary increases on your performance
At best you appear assuming that "NO ONE WILL PAY FOR LESS WORK" or "EVERYONE WELL PAID IS PERFORMING".
And with this assumption we should be living in best of conditions as everyone entrusted to take care of this countries civic needs is rather well paid.
Let us not forget: Satisfaction invariavbly leads to betterment for everyone through better results and salary at best provides for necessities of living a better life. No more....
It is job satisfaction that provides with objective and encourages to go ahead.
Salary, at best is a resource necessary to keep going as if to provide the fuel in a automotive.
A person getting paid a Salary without a job will not be able to get any satisfaction. (unless 1. Everyone around is sailing in the same boat and there is no shame attached. or 2. For those to whom moneymaking is the goal.)
I agree with that there is no use of having high salary if one is not satisfied with his salary he will not be able to do well in his job what ever he may be doing and I would say he would have just stuck in job sometimes would be thinking that it would had beter if I would have not doing job comparision to doing job.
See If a person is satisfied with his job ,that is sure that he will grow and and he would do well in his job and eventually he will earn wel and grow in his life.
Your statement that if a person is paid well , he/she automatically performs well on the job , seems debatable.
The architects of the 2009 global recession were all senior level professionals , paid in millions ; did it prevent them from committing blunders ?
Money never enabled performance ; has even a single invention or discovery come about because the inventor or discoverer was well paid ? Money , or dreams of making a fortune , might have been a lure for working hard , but the drive for performance always came from within.
Did Bismillah Khan become a maestro because he was paid well ?
I would say that my aim in life is to realize my full potential. As a working professional , if I do not have job satisfaction , what have I achieved ?
If I am a married man , and I do not have a satisfactory marriage , will I be happy , even though my wife is a salaried earner , with a seven-figure salary ?
If my children followed Dawood Ibrahim's footsteps , they may become millionaires , but would I be proud of them ?
Money is not everything. And it is not as if the best , most satisfying jobs , don't pay anything. One can certainly sacrifice some amount of money to get a more satisfying job. Going after money , to the exclusion of everything else , is soulless , like selling your wedding ring to buy yourself a Rolex watch !
There is always a certain basic level of salary needed to keep a person comfortable in a job, anything less than that will cause dissatisfaction with the job. Beyond that level of salary, job satisfaction, freedom to do the job in the way best suited to you and recognition is the prime motivator. By

Salary is monetory compensation to an employee, but it is the job satisfaction that matters most in an individual's employement. I believe if u have no job satisfaction you may work for salary but that is only ephemeral. So continuing in job means a lot of job satisfaction By

I am very much agree with Kriti Das since salary will really act as a motivating factors and the employee will get more encouragement for the growth of his company as well as his own
I definately agree with Mr.Kriti Das,if your expected salary(the salary which you really deserve) credited in your account,it really motivates to do more and earn more...and you can try to do your work in a better way... a good salary gives you a mental satisfaction,as per me the day when level of satisfaction with your job comes in your mind, your eagerness towards work can be less, then you start maintaining your performance level,it really stops your progress....like we can take the example of govt employees, they are having job satisfaction, thats why they wont work at all...
Had heard it in early part of my career. As far as any employment is concerned, you could either keep the job or be satisfied. Since I am paid on my strengths and abilities, to me salary plays an important role, certainly more than job satisfaction. Better salary brings satisfaction with the job is my belief.
I feel that the complete phenomenon of salary v/s job satisfaction varies from person to person. For me I would place both of them in equal proportions.Earlier when we had a closed economy our fathers n forefathers were more concerned about job satisfaction..But of late in this era of globalisation I feel that somehow job satisfaction and salary both have become interlinked and complimentary. For me if I get my dream job where I am paid less, I might be happy with the aspect of enjoying my work but after a certain level I would yearn for money..for a better salary.Hence in todays world everything comes with a charge..
It depends entirely upon the desires of the individual. To accept more responsibility, perform more complex tasks and lay the groundwork for the abilities to do so; with education, longer hours, etc. results in a higher salary. To accept more mundane labor with little or no responsibility means a lower salary.
It is realy true that sallery is affected the working capacity and performance. If any person is not satisfied with his sallery then he can't do best with his work. It is also a part the job satisfaction. If any person is not satisfied with provided job that he is not also able to do best . But sallery is first in his working capacity
