मनुष्य जीता है अहंकार में। अहंकार आवरण है, आत्मा नहीं। अहंकार तुम्हारा यथार्थ नहीं, तुम्हारा अभिनय है। अहंकार तुम्हारा सत्य नहीं, तुम्हारी मान्यता है। जैसे रामलीला में कोई राम बने तो राम नहीं हो जाता, ऐसे ही तुम कुछ बन गये हो जो तुम नहीं हो। एक बड़ी रामलीला चल रही है। जन्मे थे, कोई नाम लेकर न आये थे; फिर एक नाम मिल गया तुम्हें, फिर वही नाम बन गए तुम। जन्मे थे तो कुछ ज्ञान लेकर न आये थे; फिर सिखाया गया, पढ़ाया गया, विद्यालय गये, विद्यापीठ गए। फिर बहुत से विचार तुम्हारे मस्तिष्क में डाले गए। तुम ज्ञान में ढाले गये। फिर तुम सोचने लगे--यह मेरा ज्ञान है। इसमें तुम्हारा कुछ भी नहीं; सब उधार है, सब बासा है। न नाम तुम्हारा, न ज्ञान तुम्हारा, न तुम जो सोचते हो अपनी प्रतिमा वह ही तुम्हारी; वह भी दूसरों ने बना दी। किसी ने कहा सुंदर हो बहुत, तुम मान बैठे। और किसी ने कहा अद्वितीय हो बहुत, तो मान बैठे। किसी ने प्रशंसा की है तो उसे संजोकर रख लिया है। किसी ने निंदा की है तो चोट खायी है। दूसरों के मंतव्य से तुम्हारा व्यक्तित्व बना है। यह दूसरों के हाथ का निर्माण है। यह दूसरों ने तूलिका लेकर तुम पर रंग कर दिये हैं। और इसी को तुमने अपना होना मान लिया, तो तुम कभी स्वयं को जान न पाओगे।
