i strongly support this point. you can retain talents by giving them higher responsibiity but only to an extent. As the responsibility gets higher and higher it is impossible to retain them because they gain experience day by day and the demand for such personalities also increase naturally. hence they tend change their organization just for salary.

Off course higher salary and higher responsibility comes in tandem. To retain, we need to give higher salary, responsibility comes naturally. If a guy is recruited, he knows why he have been paid more, to work and get more responsible for work and he will perform well, will do the best, since he knows if he does more work, he will be paid higher and higher. The best is to pay more and get more, that offcourse most of them know. Even retainership is best to pay more, automatically everything will fall in place.

I differ a bit. Because responsibility indirectly means power. We all know mere power by things anywhere anything unless or otherwise proper checks are in place. Talent desire power means its for corruption. Power monger Hitler is there to describe it. In business, its needless to say about power. It will do everything .In toto, a mismanagement.

Whatever the Industrial Psychology says viz, Esteem, Satisfaction, Recognition, awards & promotion; its all tried by Industries and is being practized all over the world. Its being constantly refined & periodically reviewed over the Turn-over of man-power. Even, some companies go to the extend of allowing Ownership to employees, in the business. But, still the problem exists. So, the problem may be different from what we are saying VIZ, the salary / responsibility.Let us do not dwell on it . We restrict to the salary & responsibility. I support money because, we are talking of best talent.Talent is a commercial entity. When, you look at it in this sphere, Whoever pays higher rate, it will be sold out. Its a simple business analogy.Business is meant for bottom-line & whoever enrich the bottom-line may the best talent that the company desires to retain. So what the psychological term can not achieve, can be, considerably, achieved by giving them few rupees. May be Responsibility plays a role but, by and large, in a business concern employee desires good salary with fine working condition. What I mean to say is that, responsibility may help to retain best talent but only few but not all. Majority of cases, we find, employee leaving companies are for better salary & good working conditions.

Kunal, amazing debate....... I think in the present scenario high salary plays a vital role in retaining talents. As we all know job hopping in becoming a trend among the present generation and the major reason for that is high pay. So as far a I am concerned no one hops frequently for recognition or responsibility it is only the salary. So companies should not only give responsibility but also high salary to retain their employees....... Thanks... :)

Responsibility is always challenging. if the person able to handle the responsibility, He will never fail in tough conditions. Fulfilling the responsibility delivers better confidence and satisfaction. I think "Responsibility". Salary will increase !

The freedom to nurture one's dream or idea, to encourage a person to deliver.Respecting his/her views. Feedback on his/her work and always being fair. All this will help an employee to continue to deliver, few of them are after money..they are the thorn, which needs to be removed. Employees who are passionate to be nurtured in their own way and at the end of the day, they will deliver what is expected of them and sometimes more than that.

Its always higher responsibility. more responsibilities and the ability deliver the same will automatically attract higher salary. and if salary is high then higher responsibility will automatically come. both go hand in hand and mutually complimentary. The learning curve of the employee will only increase with higher responsibility and so will the respect, growth, visibility and mutual satisfaction of both the employer as well as the employee.

After certain salary incerement and a certain experience (usually about 10 years), salary doesn't matter much for an employee. Then he/she look for more responsiblities, more challenging work at his/her workplace.

After a certain point, salary is passe. What is it that really works is higher responsibility. Again, at a senior level, work is not really "given" - it is taken. The execute must be allowed to define his own work, enlarge its scope. Management must then support him/her by proper infrastructure required for the new work that has been "created" by the the executive.

Responsibility coupled with good timely incentives can retain talent to a great extent. I personally feel that in today's scenario talent without remuneration does not go hand in hand, therefore any timely action relating to appraise the talent is equally important as to retain them. In a way it will also show the commitment towards the responsibility shown by the management.

yes, it is true that everybody is working for money and moves towards higher salaried job.however, money doesn't always make sense..people today are more keen towards job satisfaction .they wants higher responsibilties within the organisation so that they can put their ideas independently on to the desk. so, to retain talent, cmpnies should make their employees realise that they are given responsibilities according to their respective talent, along with a good salary. thanks :)

Of course, people are working for money. But, there is something beyond salary in our life. To show the real metal in you (the question is "Are you platinum or zinc?"), you need opertunities. So better giving more responsibilites to a person who is fit for something. Here for this debate, the question is "What is the best way to Retain Talent?" not "The best way to make a person happy". So I think the answer for the question is "Higher responsibility".

The purpose of human life is to make a difference for themselves and others by contributing constructively to the communities they participate in. This is always connected to a development process where they excel compared to earlier contributions. If you want to keep them help them grow as a person and as a professional. Salary can give you feedback on your contributions to the community. In high performance teams everyone are happy when someone is successful, becuase they helped her to become a success. So a good salary systems should reward team contributions. Many people excel in making others people the protagonists. But the protagonist gets most of the money.
