If in most of the western countries marine ply is banned, why is it still allowed in India? Asbestos is harmful. We all know that, but yet we all use it! And the government is least concerned. How do we educate the professionals, ourselves and our clients? We need to initiate a movement. Each one of us is responsible. The Media can play a big role in starting this. We need their help.

Energy efficiency analysis should me made mandatory part of Building Certification. Recommendations made by Independant and licensed Energy consultant must need to be adopted. Obviously this kicks up the cost of builidng to an extent, but in long term saves on operating cost of building as well as big time on environment. But to implement this requires serious enforcements from Authroities, which in Indian Context, unfortunately is the biggest bottleneck.

We cannot rely on the government to take any initiatives. They will not take. We have to educate people about this matter through media. As far as interior designers are considered, they may be knowing alternatives to marine ply and asbestos. They can generate this knowledge and media can propagate that...

I cant agree with you Pragya,as its government who can help us in making some rules to ban harmful items to use in construction. Also its a teamwork where we need not only engineers and interior decorators but also people who are concerned with pollution and environment too.Than I feel automatically all problems can be solved easily to proiceed towards GREEN construction in any aspect(whether its a building, factory,or warehouse)
