Percentages are just numbers... Skills are required to 'achieve' numbers. And we all... work FOR numbers!

No doubt! business organizations want skills and hence skills have higher priority than percentage. In today's education and examination system scoring high percentage is not a daunting task. Isn't it? Well, it is known to every one.

I support skills but never neglect percentages also because that shows the ability of the person rather it sya his/her consistancy.

Thanks for your views prasun. Percentages can be earned through continuous studying, but skills have to heard learnt. Then why aren't companies coming forward to provide that! they sit and blame we are not getting quality students!

Your take on this... Please

i agree wit u on this but will this hold good always given the present evaluation system??really? As a sales professional, i must say its all skill base coz nobody in the industry are doing what they learnt out of their education but its purely on the basis of what they have learnt in their profession. Eg. an engineer and MBA working in bank from 3 idiots. Such cases are available in plenty.

Ultimately Its excellence in ur own field is wats going to matter whether its learnt/ acquired from education/job

i happened to come across a top HR official from a reputed MNC from testing domain, who opined that ofcourse skills are most important but they opt for % only to eliminate ppl at initial stages os recruitment given the staggering number of aspirants. This however holds good for Engg/MCA background in IT domain, but for management what matters is purely skills.

Any views on this pls post them

Organisations deals with internal People and external bodies like governement, vendors, customers etc

Hence by becoming merely Bookish worms is not enough, you need to possess skills to interact in the organisation, have clear understanding of Organisation's vision, and skill to inculcate the vision into you

For Organisations , SKILLS are always important than percentage

The present education system does not have an objective evaluation system we often come across resources who have scored brilliantly in academics but are not what can be termed as worldly wise, we often come across situations where our academic knowledge falls short in helping us in problem solving, what helps is our problem solving skills, so though an average percentage is a very strong indicator of an individuals acumen his/her skills in problem solving helps them become more promising for organisations. This is my personal opinion.

I have come across many fresher who complain about the organizations' inclination for high percentage students at entry levels. The highly skilled capable talents are rejected for not maintaining "The Aggregate"(today everyone are getting best %ages) which inturn pressurizes students to score well. I must say some of the leading organizations are loosing out best of the talents.

Is there any alternative selection methods? should employers think in this direction?
