For the most talked about concerns, i.e. environment, energy or water, what are we doing? are we saving electricity, water, paper or atleast minimizing their use?

we cant stop using them but yes we can minimized their use,i've started doing that i don't waste them and also compelling my family, friends and collegues to do the same. even particippated in Earth Hour on 27 march 10. i believe it's not a responsibility of few people but all of us should start putting efforts to keep our environment safe or else available for ourself and our generations to come.

Turn appliances off standby The average household wastes around £40 a year simply by leaving appliances on standby. Remember:

* you can't switch most electronic goods off just with the remote control

* to turn off an appliance completely, use the power switch on the appliance itself or turn it off at the plug

* if a charger or power pack is warm or has a light on, it's probably using power

Most of the energy we use in our homes is produced using processes that release CO2 emissions into the air. CO2 emissions are the most significant cause of climate change. That means saving energy at home is one of the most important things you can do to fight climate change.

We have to conserve energy for other generation.Still some of us do conserve ,some waste it. In my home we do conserve energy, by not putting all lights, built a tank for rain water harwesting. The true reason because now a days electricity bill is going high, so changed our mind such a way that we can normal to bill & conserve electricity also. We put light only in those room where is needed. rest of the lights will be off. Priyanka Nice topic.

Yes I do. I do try to save energy and environment by using cycle instead of Motor cycle for shorter distance, turns the tap off tightly to save water. Because I am not waiting for anyone to start first and then follow them but instead of start yourself and rest of will follow me. Its my request to all of the reader that if you have not yet started then please take a step ahead to save our Planet.

Hi priyanka nice topic u have raised... well I dnt know how many people do it and hw many do.... but yes we take our own responsibility to save energy in every possible ways ..... avoiding small small things can add to it ..like switchin off our vehicles on signals, not switchin on AC wen outside temp is cool enough, switching off lights and power consuming appliances when not in use (its a common sense) and also keeping our vehicles/AC/Refrigerators well serviced also help  in burning less fuels and energy... so if we remember these small small things we can do a lot to save energy of next generation... or electricity and CAR.. they will read in history book

The answer lies in being aware. None of us can ever stop using energy priyanka, but the key is in being aware of it and use it only when needed. Starts with water to wash your face in the morning to cooking and washing clothes. Finally boils down to your use of electricity. Use it only when needed. Or else we should keep them switched off. We acn all help save energy. Its all in our level of awareness.

Minimize use of appliances in a phased manner, then switch to renewable sources of energy. That's long term strategy. In a few years, solar cells and rooftop windmills will become much cheaper. Also, we may well have technologies to use hydrogen as fuel source efficiently. So, its better to minimize consumption and gradually shift.

The Longer we go on, Power consumed will be more & more. Lets face facts that we really are not doing MUCH or rather ANYTHING, to conserve or save Energy...

Hi,

First of all let me confess that I have not gone through all the opinions posted by lot of people so it may happen that i am repeating the idea.

I also agree as discussed by lot of you that we are not saving the energy as per the expectation. Not only saving on fuel or electricity or other natural resources but also we are not exploring the new/traditional alternatives for the energy resources.

We talk a lot about solar energy but I don't think still it is been used at fullest. Forget about the common people but lot of government projects are also not using such options. How many street lights we have seen are operating on the solar system? Leave the old one but even the new projects are not using such resources.

So we not only have to save on energy but at the same time go for alternate options to generate energy

Interesting topic. I totally in agree with Jayant. Most of us not bothered about any thing other than themselves. How many us will stop for a while to close a water tap in a road side. i think this topic in detail mentioning tha effects on it shall include in schools so that our future generation will realize the importance.

Thanks Makrand... Dont you think in the jet age we are in, we should be thinking of Producing more Energy rather than Saving it ?

Agreed that Global Warming & Green Earth etc. are a must for survival BUT then why dont we cut down Production of ENERGY GORGING EQUIPMENTS... The height is now U dont even have to actually walk - There are Battery or Power Operated Walkers which make u walk while ur resting. WHAT MORE ?

I dont think one saves energy, everybody will say that they are doing their bit, but people will not go out of their comfort zone to save energy, how many times have you taken public transport to your office to save on fuel and how many times have you taken your own bag to the grocery shop to say no to the plastic bag given by the retailer, and the answer is a staggering no from almost all, so in this case so I would like to be on the no side as I am not saving energy here. But if these things are inculcated from a very early age to the kids who are studying and if there is a ecosystem where infrastructure helps one to think of saving energy untill then it will not happen.

NO...not at all. Only 5-10% professional are willing to save energy, 20% student, housewifes safe energy. Let me tell you why this is happening ?

The whole world is madly running to make money money and money. Nobody worrying about what shall happen after 10, 20 or 30 years. Let them make the money, especially professionals. Who cares to urn off the AC in the empty room, who cares to turn off the street light, who cares to avoid excess lighting in the big malls, who cares to turn off light in the railway coach at day time, who cares, to turn your PC / TV off, see politician rallies, so much extra light at roadside, who cares.

People need to goto Nursery class to even learn the ABC of saving energy. All cares to make money and make more money. Who cares after sometime for our mother earth ?

NO... I DONT THINK WE ARE SAVING Energy or Power !

There were talks about Paperless Offices... The Computer is the biggest culprit according to me, enhanced by the PRINTER, neither does it save Paper nor Electricity. In fact the Printer is responsible for a Huge usage & Wastage of both.

Then to Top it All came the SHREDDER... People now waste more Paper since it is easy & fun to Shred it. So more wastage of Power & Paper both.

NEW INVENTIONS are constantly encouraging more USE OF POWER & then coming out with 5 Star Ratings that they actually Save Power...

In this ever expanding world, with new Equipments daily introduced to make our lives EASIER... Where is the question of Saving Energy, Paper & having a greener Earth ?

Good Food for Thought... Priyanka BUT it will stay a thought only, im afraid.

Happy Debating Friends !
