The England and Wales Cricket Board on has scrapped the 50-over format from its domestic cricket calender for the 2010 season, claiming that the ICC  will review the future of ODIs after the 2011 World Cup.

What do you will 50 over ODI cricket will  survive after the huge success of 20-20  format matches?

I rhink yes. If we could innovate from test to 50 overs ODI and rgen to 20/20... It is possible.

I feel that the ICC has to regroup and rethink a strategy that would be competent and glamorous in terms of the visual appeal of ODI's. 20/20 has all the ingredients of being small (time wise), definitive redults, glamour and glory. The biggest appeal is the array of hard hitting from the word GO!!

If they can implement some new inclusions like REAL cheer leaders, Franchise the country teams to the largest local corporate and glamorise the event, even 50 overs cricket would start looking good. 20/20 cricket doesnt stop test playing nations from playing test matches. In fact the frenzy surrounding any Ashes series and any Indo Pak encounter is equal or more than the frenzy of 20/20 cricket. Its a time to relook at strategy and create some 'new' bubble bursts for 50 over ODI format to make it look more glamorous and nore meaningful!!

Good question Deepak and thanks for the referral!! :))

I don't think ODI cricket will survive after the huge success of 20-20 world cup and IPL. 20-20 cricket has put new life in an entertainment world.

It has been glamorized with active involvement of bollywood stars and introducing new concept of cheer girl and of course the game finishes with full entertainment in 3 and 1/2 hours just like watching a movie.

I think it's very difficult for ODI cricket to survive unless and until ICC comes up with very innovative idea.

I think both has to compliment eachother here, if we are concentrating on just one thing then again it will backfire, just introduce some new things in 50 over format as Markand has suggested, if they scrap 50 over format then there will be no real players that we will be seeing in future as Test and ODI's are the place where one's skill and physical endurance is tested, i would like to see all the formats compliment eachother whether it is a test match a one day international or a T20..if they overdo it then it will be boring for spectators.
