What should be the medium of instruction in schools?

The question arises time and again that what should be the medium of instruction in schools. It is left upto parents to decide and a student does not have his own choice in this matter. But still does studying all the subjects in a foriegn language make it difficult for a student to express his views? Or is he adapted to it well from the start and has no problem against it? What should be the medium of instruction in school?

We should be with time or ahead of time & to

match both these requirement , the medium

should be English for instructions.

& the important reason for that it is widely

accepted in the world. & you can keep your

regional language/ mother tongue as

language subject.

Anybody is accepting or not is a secondary

thing, but English competency is essential &

pr-requisite for every sector.

We should only take English as a subject. We should also trained our students in this language. Instructions in mother tounge will not only help today's generation to be in touch with it but also help students to understand the views and they also can keep thier views easily.

Medium of education should be the one so that the children of India tomorrow are no way behind in presenting whatever they have learnt or imbibed from schooling to PHD. so i think there is no point to discuss the medium of education as mother tongue because that is what additional indian children learn at home.

Education has to be practical in todays challenging job arena and it is therefore imperative to practise the language that can help an individual to work crossing all barriers and continents. English and good at that spells a mature and versatile personality and should be thoroughly imbibed in early schooling.

English should be medium of instruction in schools as Indian economy is growing today due to language dividend that we have. we are living in knowledge based economy so it is important that we should integrate with rest of world in terms of language. English also link Indians with each other irrespective of region and religion.

One word answer ..... all professional cources in India(medical, engineering CA ...& the like) are in english. Our medical books are not in vernacular languages.

Medium of should be English because it will help our generation to withstand the conditions strongly on international level, many of us has supported mother tongue they r right bt the fact is that a person can gain perfection from society but we need platforms for international language.

The medium of instruction in schools must be in English,because the English communication helps the student to enrol in sector(in any sector).Monther tongue helps the student to understand the subject clearly.......

English is not a "foreign"language, its a common language of the world over. If the thought process is also done in the language of instruction, the context and content of course material or any script will be understood.If mother tongue is used for instruction in primary schools, it will be difficult to switch to thinking in English language after early childhood

I feel medium does not matter much the thing which matters is good quality teachers in schools whether private or government. Hnd s my mother tongue so i would support for this.

In present conditions, after a certain level, if one has to pursue higher studies, the only medium available easily is English. There is no use in using mother tongue as medium. at best it can be taught as a language

What use of a language in education if it's difficult to understand at primary level. I should support mother tongue since the main objective of education is to inculcate the habit of asking, questioning, analysing and interpreting.A student should be tought in a language familier to him/her, the they can only understand the real meaning of education .

Hi All, its easy to understand and express the learned things in mother tongue  in English because, "instruction is to make the pupil understand" this is the concept. Its easy to understand the subjects in mother tongue.  whereas, now-a-days tanga-wala can speak in English, if we know the subject then its easy to explain in English. This what I feel. So, English its better we keep it for communication only...

Mother tongue is most impartent then English .but We are not only communicate our region people ,we should also communicate other state people,forefinger so we need one common language that is called English.

It is a pretty example that Japanese would came up with their medium of instruction as mother tongue. Myself as a worst example that how English is putting the people to struggle the for understanding the subject. I am working as a software engineer in the Middle East and years together I am finding difficult in understanding English in most of the areas...honestly even now..

Mother tongue for first 6 years minimum. We 'think' in our mother tongue. A kid grabs maximum knowldge in his first 6 years of learning.

A student should learn english as a subject so that he does not have any problem in communication at higher level but before that a student studying in mother toungue will be able to perform better as he would be able the expres his views freely. Thinking in one language and then translating it into english and narrrating is a tedious process. Simultaneously a personality development course for students should be added to the syllabus in which they are taught soft skills and communication in english.
