Whatever may be the prospective future of a particular stream, choosing between the streams largely depends on the interests of the individual. If you choose marketing, you must be ready to travel long stretches and must have the quality of impressive talk. Those who opt for finance shall have the patience to sit tight late evenings and the patience to fight with the figures. Whatever may be your chosen path, you can win the odds if you love it. If not you will succumb to pressures. My bet is with Finance anyway.

Hi, It is not the question of which is most important amonst both. It is true that both have equal importance in the current industry. Both are two dofferent platforms. One is front end and other is back end process. There is no company which runs without markeing and finance. On the point of view of a student its purely their personal inerest for which they opt for.

It depends on you, in which sector you are more comfortable with. Both the sector have equal opportunities and are equal challenging and paid. I myself belonging from finance side would choose finance side. But it doesn't mean you have to do the same because I told you. You see your own interest and the filed where you can perform better because if you choose a field and can't perform, it is of no use.

Once the dust settles and the world economy starts recovering, the financial sector will again hog the limelight. It will be again the most sought after sector providing great jobs and future provided it amends its previous failures.

I believe that MBA in Finance will result in a better career. Looking at the prospective of the employer a sales guy can be easily replase but to find a replacement of a Finance guy is very tough.. I hope everyone will agree to this...

I will agree for Finance MBA, we have better scope in Finance as nowadays every second person is doing MBA in Marketing and lot many of them are just working on a very low level jobs, they dont have even their recognition.
After doing Finance MBA we can atleast judge the financial situation that may arise in any organisation, we can find out the economic growth and lot more.

But without finance u can't do marketing..without initial investments u cannot start production activities..wen there is no production then were is marketing..so finance is the 'life blood' of the corporate..
On the other hand without marketing financing activity becomes useless fuction...so i'm going to say is -finance and marketing are like partners to a corp.,...so guys can go on dual combi. in MBA

Yes, I think that a finance MBA can offer numerous possibilities and can be an effective tool to help with promotions in the professions like financial managers. Most prospective jobs for finance MBAs fall within investment banks, corporations, and securities firms.

Both streams are important it depends on individual to individual which career suits to his personality. For example if u r going to make investment and want less but secure and steady returns u will go for FD or some other fixed return instrument if u r ready to take risk of ups and downs and like more growth then u should opt equity. Sales & Marketing people are revenue earner for the company so they always remain in focus and get more reward and incentives but also faces more work pressure while finance people are also very important since they manage the revenue and trusted people required in this field and company avoid frequent changes in it. Finance field is very vide and CA, CFA and ICWA professional have more wider knowledge base as compare to MBA(Fin) professional and get preference over them. So I think MBA( Marketing) is better career option for MBA’s.

no matter whatever you select but as you come out with MBA degree then you suppose to do marketing initially. Because company immediately dont handover finance dept to everyone. And normally companies hire CAs, CFAs, CSs & ICWAs for Finance related jobworks. Most disadvantage of finance field is jobs are not secure becuase last year as there was recession so many Finance MBAs lost their reputed jobs. But marketing is only field which got strong potential. In the sense marketing is require for each & ever product for each & every company. So marketing is only field where normally company approaches us.

Depends on where u want to be and where you want to study. Now in india, Finance MBAs are not the mainstay of the finance profession. Unlike the west, indian financial scene is dominated by CAs. I think this will be so, even for some more time. So it is better to be in marketing.

Any functional aspect of a business is constrained by Marketing. If we were to start off with any business in any domain, marketing is a must. Maybe, you can work for a finance firm with Finance MBA. A Marketing MBA is a must for all those who aspire to start their own firms. So far as opportunities are concerned, finance is always better. But in the long run, we have to be generalists.

"Selling" is the most important part in this competitive world be it the busienss, service, job, etc. So marketing is an important part of the busienss these days. Even if you one of the best finance chap in ur office but unless you dont know how to sell your product your knowledge is of no use. Even in job if you know how to sell your skill and talent you can fetch one of the best jobs. So finally marketing is th ekey to success.

My MBA will be completed next month. And I can boast about the fact that there are not many lucrative finance jobs available in the market. Core finances attract CFA's and CA's not MBA's. If it was an year ago I could have commented that yes! MBA's are required for Investment Banking, KPO's etc. But these fields are passe'. Even if the so called recession goes away by the end of 2009, fact remains that it would take time for the market to recover. You can wait for choosing your field but what if you have to wait for 4 years??
The only job available for finance guys these days is in Insurance, stock broking and it involves sales. I chose my major as finance and minor as marketing cuz i was really bent towards finance. But seeing the scenario, I have no other option but to switch on to Marketing.
Institute's that provide Dual degrees give a better opportunity, in the sense that you can be secure by not choosing a major and waiting for a single field to recover.

I believe that marketing MBA is important and more critical than finance in any business activity. Even the success of financial services (like banking and insurance) and products like loans and credit cards are dependent on how well they are marketed as there is not much difference in the interest rates and charges. The most common are corporate positions such as Marketing Manager, Brand Manager, Market Research Analyst and New Product Manager.
