The present parlimentary system is turning in to total failuer in India. In the last 60 years we could not reduce the gap between the poor and the rich. A recent study by a National level research Institute revealed that more than 90% of the poor didnot know what they want and who should rule them. We are going back to the dynastic rule each elected representative tries to build his own dynasty. We could not educate the people on moral values and ethics. We are going back to 18th century. We beleive more in God, Astrology, Vamachara and not on our abilities. The tribe of people who sell Prasadam and Yantra, Kavacha, Birth & Fate Stones and make a living by fooling people is increasing and How can such people decide on who should be our representatives in the government. nearly 50% of our people do not vote. Children between 14-18 years do not have voting rights even though they have better mental ability than most illiterate voters. Childrens rights are talked about only in paper. Parents do not have rights to decide about them while voting. Votes are being baught. present democracy is killed by money power. Legal system is utter failure and is another tool in the hands of politicians. What changes we need to take our democracy in the right direction at this juncture.

Yes I am in favor of Presedential system as we saw from last 63 years what india is now in compare to China and US. I am strongly recommend to have a federal government in india where all states have their indepency to adopt strategy for growth in this way each states compete each others for earing revenues with positive thinking like what did by Dubai while other states of him compete each like Abu Dhabi. In this way the country will grow like anything without any help of World Bank or IMF. Take a look into Parlimentary system where you will find as many MP's and MLA's are there which is nothing to do and where as state assembly see how many MLA's like crowded such as UP assembly. Indian more then half of total revenue going to this MLA's and MP's pocket and remaining of them in corruption. If we adopt Presedential like US and adopt federal system then I think it will change the country's image towards a positive growth in all sectors.

i believed in reformed parliamentary system.to be precise a bi-party system..not a multi party system. multiparty system doesnot India at all.. and presedential rule in India is never possible with so much diversity.India has 36 listed regional languages with equivalent cultures and so many religions..a presidental rule will never be successful..it will make it worse..

Democracy is a complete failure in a Monetary Economy. Corruption is inherited from Democracy.Democracy leads to "CORPORATOCRACY", which is even more dangerous than Democracy. Abraham Lincoln's Democracy is not what we are looking at and that is the difference. If we have to talk Democracy than we have to peruse the whole American war od Independence and aftermath. to remind you, our Constitution is a copy of the American constitution and I doubt, how well our Leaders framed it keeping in mind of the general public at that time. pathetic I would say so.

The present system of democaracy we have is old and has not kept pace with the fast growth. We need reforms and chance that will mach the growth. The judicial system and the administrative machinery need thorough chances.

It is not just a u turn from our democratic parliamentary system which has failed to give relief to common man on the contrary our politicians have cheated our people and minted money. I strongly favour the presidential systems as in US but people should have power to call back the representative who do not work for their well being. There is urgent need to inact so many laws for the benifit of country in field of education, judiciary, defense etc which cannot be done in present system as political parties differ so much in ideologies and they do not care for good of country.

Thank you for the debate Mr. Laxminarayan. I strongly believe that the present situation in India demands a president rule or a leader like Hitler. You have told about children rights & other issues but...it cant be done in the way we do things....elect & rule. No not at all...a strong leader like Hitler is required to uproot...all evil from its grass root. Then we can think of having a reformed parliament.
