This brings us back to the discussion started by me on Why People change jobs. You want salary, then level does not much matter - as long as you are getting the industry standard of 15-20% more than your previous job.

You want something more than you need to have some compromise. You have to weigh the "cost" of the level also when you make your move. One trivial example may set this in the proper perspective: - In almost ALL companies, (at least true in Government and Govt. Public Sector), when an employee gets promoted from a Non-Executive to an Executive cadre, there is always a (steep) drop in the take home salary. This is because the Non-Ex is eligible to OverTime wages whereas the Exec is not. But this does not mean that the employee refuses the promotion into the Exec cadre
