When we are in a flight the biggest person we trust is the pilot.. But what if that pilot betrays you??
Between January 2009 and November 2010, as many as 57 drunk pilots were detected in random pre-flight medical tests – that is two tipsy pilots every month. Of these, only 11 lost their jobs for endangering passengers; the rest got away with mild punishments including being grounded for up to three months and a pay cut for some time!!

Scary isn't it..What is the value of our life?? Nothing??

Do you think some strict actions should be taken or the action taken is strict enough to teach them a lesson?

Suspension for few months is also good enough to make them understand what wrong have they done. They should not get any salary for these months . If they do it again then they should be terminated..

Flying is a high risk job. Pilots have to find ways to motivate themselves, instead of resorting to an unabashed withdrawal from their responsibilities.

Strict action should be taken like cash fine equivalent to their salary so that they should not dare to repeat such things again.

In case the alcohol content in blood is more than permissible limit and caught the license should be cancelled without hesitation. think of a mid Air collision.

I don't drink, never imbibed 'soft' or 'hard' spirits,do not intend to either in future.Certain people have "stamina" to withstand some levels of dosage. It depends upon individuals to display sobriety on imbibing a few pegs. It's also possible that people with 'stamina' can very well perform tasks as complex as flying with no side effects to show for.To err is human,to forgive is divine,so if pilots are let off with 'warnings','suspensions',I think it is ok,serious digressions, alcohol consumption beyond limits should be dealt with heavily.

There should be more controls like an alchohol meter installed in the aircraft that doesnt allow the aircraft to be started if it detects higher levels of alchohol in a pilot or co-pilots breath. This should lead to automatic suspension of the pilot and a pay cut. These guys are being paid enormous amounts and the safety of so many lives rests upon them, so they shouldnt be allowed to go scot free easily.

The authorities should set some strict standards, inspections and policies...then only we can expect some really good results. By the way all such things happening just because we are adopting the Western culture.

People travel by different modes of transport with the belief that person in the driving seat is good at the job based on the reputation of the organisation running the transport.  The person in the driving seat should also understand that the lives of the people travelling by that transport is dependent on his abilities/belief of the travellers in him on their safety.  Any one who does not live up the professional conduct expected of him/her has to be punished severely so that the reputation of the organisation is not affected.
