Some of the instances at the back of my mind are : - The Harbhajan issue. In my view, neither side was solely responsible. So an average australian need not be so angry.
- Dr Haneef's matter. The entire australian government had to eat a humble pie. The charge was that Dr Haneef provided "reckless" support to a terror group in connection with failed car bombings in London and Glasgow. I think this issue brought a larger focus on India.
- The present economic conditions have also been an influence
I would not brand Dr Haneef a terrorist. Legally he was cleared (lack of evidence!). But I am just trying to understand an average Australian. He would probably think that there are so many Indian issues where Australians are seen in bad light. Young people in India may also have slightly contributed. The priority is moderation. We should strive to bring harmony. I would say we are not doing much in the controversy to bring harmony. I would not support an initiative to take the side of Indian students and blame Australia. I would however place my argument very strongly to pacify both sides...

Please look at the broader issue. We may cause an unrest in Australia. This could reach such big proportions that Indians living in Australia may have to suffer. Students also will suffer. I would suggest that a senior minister - who else when we have Sreekrishna, the eternal mediator - should visit Australia. He should instruct students to concentrate on studies not international politics. He should interact with Australian cross sections and media and assure tham that Indians are amiable. He should also inform Australian government that they should act if they do not want a potential tamils or kashmir issue on their hands. In spite of this, if Australia turns a blind eye, its their monkey. But Harbhajan should keep quiet. Today, India is one country which is relatively unscathed economically. The entire world is suffering. Such instances have to be viewed in this perspective. It is easy to be emotional. It is necessary to be diplomatic. Afterall, diplomacy is a very specialised art!!

Yes suhel, our govt should come with measures. It is my earnest hope that these attacks stop now. It has to be made clear to the Australian government and police that they will have to come up with a solution to prevent such attacks. The well being of Indian students and the community should be the top priority for India right now. There is a perception that Indian people were "weak prey" so we have to give them back hard. Australia wants our money but not prepared to take care of our citizens. Rather than giving lip sympathy by our politicians, its time to act.......

According to me the govt. should now form a stern diplomatic stance, considering the relative positioning of India worldwide. They can now impose their wants and rights on other countries who benefit from India. They will have to tell the Australian govt. that if this doesn't stop, then the opportunities for the Australian universities admitting Indian students will stop. They won't allow any more admissions from India. This is the est way to teach them a lesson. According to facts, out of a total percentage of kids going abroad to study more than 55% prefer Australia. So that means a big chunk of money is what the Australian varsities lose for their negligence.

Indian govt has not taken an action against the racist attacks. Public interest litigation is filed in the supreme court stating that Indian government is not taking any action against the attacks on the youth in Australia. Indian high commision has referred that matter to the Australian Foreign Minister, Stephen Smith to ensure the protection to the Indian Students. But, is Australia taking any stringent action to avoid such racist attacks on the Indian Students? Australia is proud of their education and the quality training which inspires the overseas student to make Australia their education destination. According to the Australian High commision, students choose Australia as their education destination due to many reasons and one of the most important reasons is the safety and stability of the Australian society. But after the attacks on the Indian students, it clearly indicated that it does not ensure the protection to the youth. Unfortunately the victims of the attacks were the Indian students which clearly implies that they were the racist attacks. Australia has maintained relationship with India since many years may it be for the purpose of trade, commerce or influencing students to persue their education. If the Australian government does not ensure protection and safety to the Indian students and fail to avoid the racist attacks, they would loose the huge revenue generated from the Indian students and ulitmately would hamper the India-Australia relationship.

I am in complete agreement with MR Sanjib. The Ruling Family is only concerned with staying in power sometimes it is creating new states sometimes it makes an about turn.It is least bothered with the safety and well being of Indian students.

I support Mr. Sanjib's views. Its very unfortunate that the ruling parties of India are least concerned about their countrymen who elected them. Unless they are forced, hardly they take any action.

Indian Govt means the political party in power for all practical purposes. It is the usual thought perception with the public of India in general, is that, the political masters who have been sent for leading the nation, are less concerned for the benefit of the people. Neither they have any vision nor idea, knowledge and/or interest to face a sensitive issue before the houses of Parliament. Unless & otherwise pressurised, they pretend seriousness before the media, by only directing their executives to do the minimum needful. Interestingly, these people have their self inspired ability to tackle matters decently, out of nothing, and, the people get mesmerised and fooled by the false projections and promises.

Why should we expect likewise from our Govt. particularly when it is formed by democratic way in the absense of proper guidelines in the matter from the people in majority... Our Govt. is full of politicians, the attitude of our politicians are to create so many problems based on caste, creed and culture. Even after more than 60 years of Indepandance, our politicians are still playing the cards based on favouring and disfavouring which is the main cause of corruption and based on divide and rule method. First of all, we must ensure about the fundamental cause of attack particularly on Indians, if our Indians residing at that country can able to communicate about the real cause of the problems then we the people of India can strongly oppose the incidents through proper channel as per world law and order because the Indians if residing at other countries must follow the rule of that country first I don't think our capable Indians will be helpless under the law & order of that country..... Till then, let us pray for their welfare and to successfully get rid of such an adverse problems....

I have visited few countries and when I was visiting Australia & England office my office people instructed me to not go alone anywhere and not specially in nights. As few of specious believe that the outsiders are working in their country and we dont have good jobs. And i believe after this crash of market this feeling has got strong. And really Indian govt has not taken any remarkable step on this issue.

The Indian Government has not done enough ... The government has acted very loosely in the context of the attcaks in Australia. The Indian government should demand security and set of rights of the students studying in Australia and any other foreign country..

I would like to share a news with all you guys here.Punjab university students here in India who are frustrated and angry at their friends and kin facing racist attacks in Australia have decided to do something about this and what they are doing is they are giving "Gandhigiri" lessons to all the foreign students and giving them flowers and made them to take part in a peace march through the campus...They want to show Australian authorities and foreigners all across the world as how Indians treat their guest and for them gusets are like gods......They want to set example for other countries to emulate so that the same treatment is reserved for Indians abroad.
