I am of the opinion that people are loosing interest over cricket as it has been played frequently... IPL should be conducted every alternative years otherwise it will turn out to be a time killing game rather than a religion in india..

Prashant interesting debate. I don't think people are losing interest, instead they started watching it more frequently. The IPL has given a new face to the cricket game. So I think it should be conducted every year. And cricket is not a kind of game where people get bored.

Thanks......

Yes I would like to support this side. Personally i lost my interest over cricket when this 20/20 matches came. Cricket now became more of making money and became a new type of gambling. The original essence of the game has been lost due to IPL matches.

It is indeed strange that the administrators have not bothered to spare a thought to the fact that cricketers are not machines. Even machines need rest, but the cricketers don't seem to get enough of it and are expected to perform consistently well. How can anyone be at his best all the time?

The amount of cricket being played these days defies logic. There is no doubt in my mind that there is an overdose of cricket to the extent that there is a genuine threat regarding spectators losing interest. With so much cricket to follow, I am not sure if a supporter of the game, regardless of his intensity, would be keen to watch a match every day.

There is a danger of the cricketers themselves losing their focus on the game. I have been speaking to many of the Indians who, I must confess, have been extremely uncomfortable at the thought of playing such high quality cricket at such frequency. There is no rest at all.

Anything too much is bad. Over dose of cricket that we get now a days will certainly kill the interest in the game. Players are over worked and are not fit. This leads to under performance. My fear is that the game itself will get effected due to excess of matches and over commercialisation. IPL is purly a commercial venture and it will not do any good to the game.

I feel its cricket overdose since the start of IPL.Most of the players show less interest in International matches and more interested in IPL since it is paying huge money for short span of cricket.Due to this people too are losing interest as they get to watch cricket everytime, but the competition and the attitude is less. The number of matches in IPL must be decreased to 7 per team instead of 14.Cricket is a sport, please don't make it a business and spoil the sport we love so dearly....

I feel that people are definitely loosing interest over cricket as it has been played frequently... IPL should be conducted every 2 years otherwise it will not only become a rich man's game looking @ the bid a team gets. Also as the game is played all acrosss the year, the players become tired and the game is affected.

Under this situation we should appreciate Sachin Tendulkar;s decesion of not playing in the T20 world cup

I am of the opinion that while cricket is a great game, it is not the frequency alone that is discouraging people slowly from being interested. It is the all too frequent controversies that surround it and the unrealistic amount of publicity that is employed.

Cricket has been around and matches have been played in India for more than a century actual - please see history of cricket in web sites like wikipedia for details.

In a nutshell, the sense of proportion has been lost and the drama has taken over the game.

cricket is playing frequently. Players seems to be tired and not found fresh for high tech battle. Secondly, the IPL is proved nothing but a TAMASHA for those who cricket better as a game rather than a time pass thrilling tamasha.

Technic-skill and other important factors attracting the real cricket lovers are missing from the current game.

It looks like a business or industry than a sport.

Hence, people take it as a WWF rather than a highly skilled game.

Sad but its true... :-(

comments - from people across different verticals

"IPL - too much glamour. The essence of sports missing."

"its a big commercial jamboree"

IPL - too much glamour. The essence of sports missing.
its a big commercial jamboree

I think people are loosing interest over cricket as it has got merged with entertainment [ IPL 3 hrs "Tamasha"] ..& it has loosed its characteristic/USP/soul [whatever u want to name it ] as  a real game/sport ....country in India where cricket is considered as a religion and matter of pride wid patriotic element attached... die hard fans of cricket , true followers of this sport , people wid true sportsman spirit are disappointed by this over-hyped business called " 20-20 cricket  " & not interested in watching this game any more as they used anxiously, keenly follow & watch it in the past..

Even I am least interested in watching this 3 hrs entertainment show where "money"  has taken front seat over the team India spirit..n players r busy in branding their image as rock stars, instead of working hard & delivering quality performance..

No way,as cricket is a religion in India, and no one can fed of seeing the god like sachin tendulkar playing for India.May be after retirement of tendulkar ,many people started loosing interests but cricket will still remain the no.1 sports in India.intruducing IPL as a T-20 format attracts more people as it is Hit or Miss kind of game. And in a comming future i don't think people loose but the fact that it may become more and more popular.

As of now no people are still crazy about the game and the players. But too much is too bad. I am sure in the times to come interest in the game will fade.

Cricket is treated as a religion in India. No matter what may come, losing interest for the game of cricket can never happen. In fact with formats like T20,IPL,etc, the game has sprouted novel & profound fondness among the youth, fans, adolescents, techies, corporate work force. 20-20 being a fast paced game is enthralling for all the cricket fans to chill out, wind after a day's hard work. They hit the pubs, restaurants, pool up at their friends/peer's places to share n enjoy cheering their favorite team.

No wonder we see a hard-core cricket fan fist-pumping in air out of frenzy over a huge six or an abrupt obliteration of a batsman by a mysterious delivery sending the batsman back to pavilion or a nail-biting finish of an IPL game.:)

cricket never loses its fad in India because,by default every Indian born or brought up here would very well be aware of the game.

I will go with what the cliched expression:- Cricket as told is more a RELIGION and something more than ENTERTAINMENT.

What more can a person ask for besides "religious" Entertainment.??:)

popularities of the cricket is so much of higher than the other games. So it's not easy to lose over interest rate. Ya but it's true that now a days peoples are not interest for watching long series but they are taking interest in two or three hours game planning. IPL and 20-20 world cup are the best plan for developing interest of public in this game.

Cricket is such a game, no one never looses interest on it. Lot of other programs run by TVs are shifted their timings because of IPL. Even new film releases are being shifted by IPL. That's the cricket is. A real cricket lover never looses interest on the game.

I don't think people r losing interest in Cricket as for us d Indians Cricket seems to be more a glamor than a game.As a lot of money is poured into the sport, more n more it is becoming unavoidable in our life. Media is helping a gr8 deal in creating sensation abt d sport.

People Never get bored from Entertained (since cricket is more than Entertainment to us) unless its Repeated in the same way & the results are same.

IPL has been innovating & spicing entertainment in a Classified fashion. So there is absolutely no chances of getting bored.

I do not think more cricket will make it less popular. Addiction is something which cannot be cured by providing more of the addictive stuff. Those interested in cricket will spend more time watching more of it. My concern is that this may lead to more loss of productive man-hours to the nation

NO it is not so as like every product has a life cycle even cricket has too. Initially Test cricket was started and got matured & was on the verge of saturation stage One day cricket was brought into picture and in the same way now Twenty Twenty has been started. By bringing the different forms of game more and more people are showing interest and being viewed according to their time and interest. In short it can be said that every thing has a life and to keep the game young different innovative ideas has to be brought in to keep it young and on growth stage.

Thanks to penetration of cable t.v network all hitherto uncovered parts of the country has got the opportunity to view cricket.A concrete proof of increase of viewership manifold is the amounts paid by Franchisees, for the players, and the increase in advertisements. In short more people irresespective of age are showing more interest in cricket.

It is said that in India, Cricket is not just a sport, it's a religion! Everybody follow it and is indeed a unifying material! No matter how many forms exist, they will only fuel the enthusiasm of cricket in millions. From 6 to 60, everyone has an opinion on cricket and the more you get, the more there will be interest! I do not think too much of cricket will ever do any harm to the spirit of the game!

Eearlier Hockey used to be our outlet of vocal support which aroused the feelings of the whole nation. But the string of defeats after 1980 Moscow Olympics brought our national  Hockey down to the dumps and you can see the present position, we finished 8th in recently held world cup championship in India. Other medals of some in boxing, shooting and tennis has been a recent one and that too these Olympic sports are held once in 4 years. But what does one watch any sport about India? Of coursze it is cricket. This has also been supported by the fact that we have done one recently in all forms of game, the game itseld has devised itself from test to one day to twenty twenty and BCCI is the richest board in the world. All this has contributed to , in fact rise in the activities surrounding cricket. Hence the argument.

Cricket has a significant place on people's mind. After IPL cricket has gained more n more popularity as now it does not follow the same 50 over pattern. This has almost give cricket a big change as a game and has help to inject a tremendous excitement among the people. people loved and lived cricket before and will continue to do so ahead.
