I will support knowledge. See for any industry, knowledge is very essential. Communication is an advantageous tool which help you to communicate about your knowledge & skills in comprehensive way. But It is possible only after you have Knowledge. If you have no idea or knowledge about subject, then what would you communicate. You must have knowledge about your product or subject, then after you will communicate.

Thanks 4 the invitation Janki. I think you are right. But I still on the side of knowledge, as no one is a good communicator by birth. You can improve your communication by proper training/guidance. But knowledge is necessary for the better job performance. For communication you should have basic knowledge of the subject/topic which yo are going to share/communicate.

THANK YOU JANAKI FOR YOUR INVITATION. COMMUNICATION BY ITSELF EMANATES FROM KNOWLEDGE.SIMPLE FACT IS WHEN ONE WANTS TO COMMUNICATE IN WHATEVER LANGUAGE OR EVEN BY SIGNS,KNOWLEDGE IS REQUIRED TO APPROPRIATELY COMMUNICATE THE MESSAGE THAT IS EXPECTED TO BE COMMUNICATED.KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.

Thanks for invite Janaki, Of course Knowledge is more important. Yet defining you own metrics of success is even more important. Communication would remain essential as a tool and the two can not and may not be correct to weigh " Either - OR" . Effective communication as well requires subject knowledge or Knowledge may not be useful if it can not be communicated.

Both knowledge and communication are required to become successful in job. Marketing, call center job requires more effective communication skills while IT , construction & engineering field needs technical knowledge. One keeps on learning and upgrading themselves in order to achieve even greater success. In short excellent negotiation, interpersonal & communication skills along with the in depth knowledge of that field makes the person successful in a particular job.

Communication is more important because your knowledge can only be shared within an organization only by communication. There is no use of knowledge which can not be shared or used with lack of communication.

To work efficiently we need both communication and Knowledge, but to become successful communication is sufficient. If u have knowledge only and can not communicate wat u have in the box then there is no use.But if you are a good communicator u can survive in the corporate.

In all honesty I must say a good communicator stands a better chance of being successful on the job. No doubt knowledge helps but knowledge alone does not help. Communication is essential.

Think about this: A fresher is chosen for a job typically in the first 3 minutes of an interview... it's not the knowledge that is tested in 3 minutes, but overall 'ability' to communicate. Also, you might be the best student of the Univeristy, but if you cannot communicate how you bridge your existing learning to the Corporate world... you'll not end up getting the best job, for sure!

I have a very clear way of debating this out. Knowledge is for your self, while communication is for the peripheral and outer world. If you cannot communicate well, how would the world around you know what knowledge you possess? Communication here is not only oral / written skills, but also actions, body language, discipline, self-awareness etc. You don't have to be an SME to be able to perform on the job, but if you cannot communicate, even the most outstanding performance might not come through as it should have! A case of squares and rectangles... every square is a rectangle, but a rectangle is not a square. :)

To be successful, knowledge is a must but unless one has communication skill, people can not recognise the availability of knowledge. It is quite important how one expresses his/her knowledge to the people who matters say customers, superior etc. Thus communication skill is also equally important.

It is often said that teachers learn from their students ; when you try to explain a subject to anotherperson , you find that things which you yourself had taken for granted , are not so self-explanatory , and it requires a lot of thinking on your part to explain everything so that it is clear to the other person. Thus , the act of communication , makes you more enlightened. Thus , there have been several physicists of Nobel prize winning repute , but there have been very few who have been able to explain modern physics in a clear , understandable manner. One such is Richard Feynman. A popular author of science , especially physics is Isaac Asimov. On the job , one of the greatest abilities a person can have is the ability to convince others ; almost all of this can be attributed to communication skills. In fact in the days of the ancient Greeks , one of the ways to knowledge was by engaging people in dialogue ; discussing things with others , brought in new ideas or helped clarify unclear ones. The most famous exponent of this was Socrates , from whom we have the Socratic dialogues.

There are various barriers exist at the workplace. Predominant are language barrier, cultural barriers , communication barriers etc. Adequate knowledge that a person possesses, needs to be translated into action through communication. Once an effective communication is established whatsoever, the difficult task may be assigned. Its always seen performed/completed. To be successful in job, you need to be a performer. To be a good performer you need to communicate the goal, aim & action etc clearly so that the executor carry out the task completely.
