In the current business context, where distinct economies and distinct markets are getting more and more closely integrated, most leadership decisions have to be necessarily knowledge based, evidence based with as minimal dependance on managerial 'instincts' as possible. This requirement emphatically eliminates the autocrats from any possible slot in the decision making authority matrix making way for a battery of subject matter experts (SMEs), execution masters, trouble shooters and persistent doers. In participative decision making process, views and counterviews are looked at and addressed as valuable 'flags' rather than whimzical objections by all these members enlisted before. The flags are deliberated and debated upon, a million holes punched and plugged from these views so that a (nearly) universally accepted plan of action emerges. The fringe benefit of the process is, at the end of it all participants own the decision, are aligned to the outcome thereby ensuring commitment to plan at every stage of execution. As we all have seen, it's the empowered, enabled and committed teams that create a distinction for successful organisations from the not-so-successful ones.

Leadership is all about communication, the style can be autocratic or democratic. If they are communicated wrongly in the behaviour and/or language of the leader, both would eventually lead to discomfort. I would put more emphasis on communication by the leader to his team and organisation, such that whatever the style it is not construed as wrong or ineffective. The leader has to keep moving between these styles depending the decision on hand and the complexity involved.

It all depend on the industry or the field you work in, if you work in a high-tech. technical environment were creativity is a vital issue, from my experience leadership is achieved  by means of open and honest communications (Participative).

According to the basic human psychology always the participative(Democratic) used to create the Win-Win situation which is widely accepted nowadays through out the world. And a best leader is "One who knows way, One who shows the way, and One who goes the way". So if a leader doesn't want to shows the way and to be authoritarian who will like to follow that leader. And all that efforts unrecognized wiill go waste therefore always we the human mind need recognition for anything it is doing. Authoritarian always don't recognize, therefore the style doesn't work.

I think  democratic is the best method to be an effective leader,

This style involves the leader including one or more employees in the decision making process (determining what to do and how to do it). However, the leader maintains the final decision making authority. Using this style is not a sign of weakness, rather it is a sign of strength that your employees will respect.

This is normally used when you have part of the information, and your employees have other parts. Note that a leader is not expected to know everything -- this is why you employ knowledgeable and skillful employees. Using this style is of mutual benefit -- it allows them to become part of the team and allows you to make better decisions.

well In my experience this the most effective way is to be an authoritarian  manager,,so I think  This style is used when leaders tell their employees what they want done and how they want it accompished, without getting the advice of their followers. Some of the appropriate conditions to use it is when you have all the information to solve the problem, you are short on time, and your employees are well motivated.

Some people tend to think of this style as a vehicle for yelling, using demeaning language, and leading by threats and abusing their power. This is not the authoritarian style, rather it is an abusive, unprofessional style called bossing people around. It has no place in a leader's repertoire.

The authoritarian style should normally only be used on rare occasions. If  we have the time and want to gain more commitment and motivation from our employees, then you should use the participative style
