I support the idea for working in Govt sector / PSU. I was reading the view of many people and most argument is that its secured and very relax. Yes it is secured but very risky also. I don't know how manyof u know this..

If u have done any mistake in private organisation you will be fired or asked to quit and go for another opportunity, but in govt sector if u have done mistake, you will have to answer and once traced you wont be able to leave the job and take the second opportunity. Your all the PF and other balances will be on hold till the disposal of the case, even if u retire. Is this u say secured?

I read"Relax", Yes there are people in every organisation who relax during their office hours whether it is govt or private. The only crieterion is be a favourite of your boss, he will make you feel relax. A company runs if employees are working and so do govt sector.

Third i read "limited exposure", No not at all. Have you ever compared the experience of a doctor working in govt and a well designed clinic. You will always find a line in the bio of these clinic doctors "Retires from Govt Hospital", "Ex-CMO, ----- district hospital". They try to impress that they have worked for govt and they have come across many diseases while in govt and will be able to help you whatever you problem is. Is this is limited exposure.

Moreover i argue with those who think it is limited. its individual what amount of job you want to do and whether you want to innovate in your field. Govt sector never stop that, yes certain procedures are to be followed and you have to convince your higher ups that the money involved in innovation  will yield good result, after all its the public who will ask if the money invested does not yield anything, because its public money.

Finally i agree with all that bot have its pros and cons. One has to decide what risk he is able to take.

I also like to thank Miss Renne inviting me to this topic.

Jai Hind & Happy Holi.

Manveer good debate. According to me private sector is the best place to work. The present generation are different from the earlier generation, they want to get exposed more and hop jobs frequently. So these are not possible in government sector.

Thanks.....

Government job is a shelter in rainy as shiny days.  Efficiency should be promoted.  When the whole world crumbling under recession, VI Pay Commission redressed Central Govt Employees financial standing.  After what country has done for you, it is our turn to see that what we can do to our country.

However, good management is all that an employee wants to make himself feel good.  If that is not provided, Government sector is the best.  If not, it is not so a bad place to stay.

On the other hand, management is not good in private sector, it is a bad place to stay that too when no other place is found to take shelter.

hi reena thanks for participating in this topic. i m not totally agree with ur statement although i can understand that in the present senario mostly youths of india going to private sector but if this will happened continusoly than what will happen our country growth by which india can make developed country.

so as per my view youth should go also in govt. sector by which effort of our youth our vision of making developed country will be possible till 2020.

otherwise there will be create problem to us because without growth of gov sector growth of our inia can not be possible...........

thanks

Hi Manveer ,

I would like to give my opinion , after the following clarifications :

1.  You have given several attributes , which makes it difficult to come to a decision. The government sector may be good if you consider one attribute , while the private sector may be good if you consider another attribute. You will have to decide which attribute has a greater weightage.

2.  You have heard of the Navratnas ; the first thing about individual growth is that it is difficult if the company that you are working in is a sick company or a company which does not have enough funds to implement ideas or expansion plans. If a concern has access to enough funds , it can dream big , and employees can also participate in these dreams. Nowadays , there are quite a few government sector companies which are not only doing well financially , but have also embraced various quality initiatives. Thus the earlier impression that government sector industries were slow moving behemoths is no longer true.

3.  Secondly , it is a fact that the government can afford to spend money on a much grander scale than private sector companies , with a few exceptions like the Tatas , Birlas , Ambanis ... To that extent , joining a government company will give you access to more sophisticated know-how , equipment and so on.

4.  Thirdly , it is a fact that the government sector still has a tradition of employees remaining for a longer period. Even today , you will find employees who have worked in steel plants for more than 30 years. Very few private companies will have senior management which has been with the company for so long. Again there will be exceptions. This is experience which is invaluable. Freshers would do well to make full use of this available experience.

5.  Lastly , it is a fact that the private sector no longer looks down upon government employed personnel. Thus , you can always make a transition from government sector to the private sector ; making a transition the other way is more difficult , since the government sector rarely takes in employees at the middle levels ; it is either a fresher or a very senior level ( Director or such like ) requirement.

My opinion would be that a government sector industry to start with will be a good learning experience. There is still a lot one can learn from the 'Babus' !.

Nothing better than Govt. Job

TO take into full stride of life, with few moments to think, and few moments to be useful towards one's committments

Nothing other than Govt. Job

TO be precise, nothing better than Govt. Job. Changes you can't make but for sure your presence can be felt. The expected change has to take a long course as it is not a matter of affecting 1+1 but a great lot.

I believe to enjoy the life, time and your career, govt jobs are the best.

The cut throat competition appears good but for the whole lot of life and years it doesn't suits.

Hi,

I would like to place my opinion on the Govt sector why is it not that challenging the private sector on this matter,

1. The job security is assured, hardly I have heard that any body fired for Non- performance, mis-conduct, corruption, etc., (max Suspension for Few months even in serious offences)

2. comfort at work : Limited / No accountability : compare a Private Institution with Public institution or Bank Pvt vs Public.

3. No challenge/Defined Growth plan : Any level of contribution doesn't make big impact, Then why run the race.

4. Mindset : This needs to be changed, the gauge has to be set, Performance to be monitored effectively, then things may change.

As of Now, Govt Sector job : Good, Nothing like it.

I don't believe that private sectors are best for youth...If we see the competition in public sector then we come to know that there are lots of youth applying for Govt. Jobs...Job security might be the one reason...I don't know the actual reason but as far as my friends are concerned most of them want to go in Govt. sector excluding me...because I think we get more friendly and free environment in private sector...But some of my friends think opposite of it...It might be true... they might like the lazy life...they don't want to do regular work...I am not saying that in Govt. sector employees don't do any work...But this is the mentality of outside world... especially in my friends mind... it should be changed...

I will not say all Indians think like that but most of the Indians think like that...If you see the employee point of view then Gov. Sector is best...

hi all viewers my self anubhav gupta and i am btech student of ACCURATE INSTITUTE MANAGEMENT AND TECHNOLOGY. I live at noida but i hail from agra . i am going to describe my personal opinion in private sector. in my point of view private sector is much better than the government sector because people have more responsibilities and good working environment in a pvt sector ..........
1- in pvt sector we get the growth in the short time .
2-pvt sector provides very much handsome salary package to its employees.
3-in pvt sector there is no limit of earning or salary .
4-In pvt sector we get the healthy working environment .
5-i prefer private sector , becoz its gives the value of your performance and in case of govt sector whether you perform very well or not it remain static as it is..
6- According to me private sector is the best place to work. The present generation are different from the earlier generation, they want to get exposed more and hop jobs frequently. So these are not possible in government sector.

I think it depends more on the organization than on whether it is private or Government. The system and human resource policy prevailing at the place of work makes it attractive. At some point of time just JOB SECURITY holds no significance. It is a good career move to work for Private sector than with an ailing PSUs. It's professionally more satisfying.

I prefer Pvt.secto, bcoz it gives the value for your performance, and in Govt.sector whether u perform  very well or not it remain STATIC as it is.

I prefer Govt.job only for DRDO  & ISRO, INDIAN OIL,

In pvt sector, the employer, earning money is fast as compare to Govt sector.

Pvt employer earn large amount in 3-4 yr. while Govt.emplyer required 10-15 years. In short "GOVT JOB AADMI KO "ALAAAAAAL" bana deta hai.

whatever, my support is Private Sector...  :)

Hi,

I will put my money on Private sector, where there are challenges and scope for improvement. Those who are ready to bend their backs and change with the times in terms of knowledge and skill sets, nothing can stop them from achieving the desired heights. There are plenty of risk as well for those who want to be sitting ducks and want some one else push forward, only to find every one goes past them, even to the extent loose job as well.

I have worked in Govt sector as well where I felt that even now the time bound promotions, limited exposure, Limited L&D activities restrict the growth plan.  I don't see any one sector different, may be the thinking line starts now.

really a very good topic manveer, I am a fresher but now doing project in a public sector, when i conducted a survey about employee satisfaction the result was they are not completely satisfied, it doesn't mean that in private sector employees are satisfied but still they will be paid and the performance will the measured in a proper way to make employee satisfy and to motivate them. coming to the topic, Youths of our country are very innovative at the same time if they go for public sectors they really become lazy and get adjusted to that lazy environment but it should not be the case of developing country like India. India should use the Best of youths. at the same time we should be careful enough to retain our people and our talent in our country. this was my view, thanx manveer.
