With the rapid development of businesses and their need to act to the fast changing world, businesses are becoming more and more dependent on IT systems.

The IT industry has now narrowed down to a few technologies for the implementation of these business applications. With most applications development effort being made in the two technologies of "Java" and ".Net", the issue remains as to which is the appropriate technology which maximizes the developer community's needs of fast and convenient application development and at the same time delivers reliable, robust, cross-platform and light-weight applications.

People's views are solicited on the aspects of their choice of the two technologies based on the criteria of speedy development, ease of development, which is more popular amongst the development community, more sought by the business community.

If we consider ease of implementation across various platforms java scores much higher than .Net

Hence java is more comfortable with other platforms like  unix and solaris,The concept of multithreading saves down time and space and gives maximum usage of CPU,whereas .net requires more memory space and hence we are coupled with its product, less security overhead of dlls will sometime unable to run our application,So I would prefer java.

Ease of development, is one of the reasons that the .net development community is so vast. With a very sophisticated, user friendly development tool like Visual Studio apps can be developed within days.

Although I would also agree that there is not much of cross-platform operation of .net apps (even some basic objects like an image is not shown on some browsers like some versions of Mozilla Firefox) and .net apps are heavier due to layers of abstraction added to allow ease of development.
