Though electronic type energy meters are used these days, I think the old is gold induction type is better.Electronic type meters have more errors and often some circuit problem may result in over counting.At least we must understand the difference between electronics ( dealing in few mV and so ) and electrical ( dealing in MVs and so on ).

Electronic meters are more accurate, tamper proof, data down loadable, easily calliberatable, Programmable, Ratio's could be fed and fixed and also reprogrammable according to CT & VT ratio's. These meters could be programmed and used for prepaid billing systems.
