There is too much talk of Multibrand retail coming into India, and still the debate is going whether a complete multibrand retailing should be allowed in India, and among all these, the mall culture has caught up Indian consumers imagination, not only rich, even these malls cater producs to the middle class people to, and with spending power people throng these places due to the options that one gets in these malls.

Also we have individual shops that are there in high end streets of a city. Even here brisk business happens.  Now we are having both these malls and shops at high end streets, so who gets the best business among the two?

MALLS... IF WE ARE TALKING OF VOLUMES & QUANTUM                         BUT ?

QUALITY... WILL ALWAYS BE WITH HIGH STREET SHOPS  !

Here the reference is about the quality of crowd & quality of purchase done. Malls have loads of undecided crowd, while High Street Shops have a pre-decided gentry, who have come in with a specific purchase target.

High end street is my choice. The reason being "inside a mall, it is difficult to find a customer who is interested in making an instant purchase. The high street shopper has made up his mind even before he has stepped in.” Also, most mall-owners (developers without a retail experience to be precise) don’t attract the right consumers as they don’t have the right tenant mix. As a result, his mall stores depend on the mall for business, while the high street stores work independently. They are not dependent on others to manage the show, away from problems of timings, maintenance and housekeeping.

Hello Namrata, In city of course malls only. Under one roof you get everything and you enjoy the shopping also.

high street  shops are much bigger than the Malls. Malls  are for higher middle class. street shops are for middle middle class and lower middle class whose numbers are enormous hence high profit and business in street shops

The difference should be in profits not only in the turnover and again profit should be return on investment.Taking into a/c the vast difference in the amounts invested comparison may not be correct.

Naushad ji,

Make a few exceptions.

High end does not forever mean better quality while malls do not forever mean poor quality. Some high end stores think only imported material is the best while it may be the worst known in countries of origin. While on the other hand many malls have policy to pick value for money material especially in countries where the concepts developed.

High end street is my choice, Malls are also good but you cant find all the things according to every individual in malls. Malls are used when you have lessere time just go and buy.

I agree with Mr Naushad and Ms Namrata.

People have no clue what they are going to buy when they go to a Mall.

When they go to High Street Shop they are sure what they want to buy!!!

In Malls there is a lot of Window-shopping. Yes the Food Courts are crowded!!

Serious buying---Yes the High Street

High street markets are the one which specializes in any perticular product. The Malls only some are good and it is also true Malls will be the future but I still remain with High Street Market/s.

Keym Cho Namrata,

If business is money making game, people who know this irrespective of whether they are at Mall or High street, or sea shore, anywhere, they will make money (Business).

In city we don’t have High street (way), it good to have mall, when you are driving back to your farm house, do some fancy buying (bargaining “your apples are costlier then the mall one’s” and all that), on the high way, who is stopping?

Let politicians do their job, who has to set up business where, policies and procedures setting them up is not our area, politicians know their game!! What is the point of discussing politicians here?  Will Shiv Sena Suprimo any one walk down to an ifter party, media around and have Beef, the control is with them.

High street shops provide credit to their customers without documentation and malls won’t.
