Great, I do support TOI along with Ravali I find a lot of grammatical errors in news items of TOI these days....I really get elated if I get to read good English in a leading English Newspaper but my heart sinks when I find that these days news Text in TOI is full of grammatical errors, The bloody reporter doesnot know how to write in Grammar or what, how was he/she chosen, just because he/she had capability to create masala? I may not be an expert, but I am sure that one must be grammatically good in the language in order to express his/her thoughts clearly, otherwise the text so written will not carry any constructive meaning.

The Content is very clear and in The Hindu it is shrinking - full of advt space occupied. Used to read The Hindu for over 40 years but switched to TOI once it started available here in TN

Please correct the question... WHICH is the Best English Newspaper in India ? The Times of India without doubt, specially in the last few years they have widened the lead between their close front runners. Indian Express once was a very good newspaper. Looking at their National Presence - Its TOI ALL THE WAY !

I agree with Manish. TOI is the best. All others are lightyears behind. TOI has acres of space, has hired journalists at best salaries and perks and has maintained good quality in its editorial content. However, its edit page is dull, drab and boring and columnists, except for one or two, suck. However, Dainik Jagran and Dainisk Bhaskar are number 1 and 2 in terms of circulation -- each selling between 30 to 35 lakh copies per day.

Did you know that Local language Newspapers are the most widely circulated and read newspapers in India. English dailies do not fare well when it comes to readership.
The highest ranked English daily was Times of India (and I always was under the impression that TOI was one of the most widely read news papers in the country)

Hey, Here I am not talking about, the Presentation, Relevancy of information, Trend-setting, Latest news carrier etc. But ,the Accessibility i.e, easy reach to readers. I am from Down South. The Hindu will easily be available in all paper stands whereas, The Times of India is available, firstly in cities like Chennai, Covai, Madurai etc. Moreover, secondly, the Stand price is a bit higher than it is quoted on the paper , thirdly, on postal service, you will get delayed editions only because of publication & delivery .

Many of my friends call the TOI as TOIlet paper. When media is a big money business, The Hindu definitely has a better edge over TOI. But ever since the school days, The Hindu was acclaimed for its quality in language and information. One of the very few papers where 90% of the paper is not yet Page 3.

Given a choice, yes,The Hindu is streets ahead of TOI,it was the only paper which covered 'paid news' syndrome, the wikileaks, the Hindu may have its faults, but given a choice,it scores over TOI anyday!!

I dont know about circulation details, but in terms of layout design, readability (Font size and type), news reporting, editorial, and ease to read (Usability) I would go for the Hindu. Better still is the Chennai edition of Deccan Chronicle.

The Hindu is more impartial in its coverage and refrains from sensationalism and dramatism. Its English Language is impeccable and the editorials written in a sane mood. The paper is owned by a very conservative family rich in values and the values are reflected in the paper. I think we are debating about the content rather than the emplyment.
