Customer takes the decision to buy where as the consumers use it after the customers decision. The customers are decision makers in purchasing a product and the consumers are many who use it even though they have not made any decision is buying the product. however both are important

Consumer need not be a customer. Someone purchases, other person can consume it even without purchasing it. Customer is more important than the consumers. Best example is newspaper reading habit in India. One person purchases a newspaper and atleast 10 persons read the same newspaper without purchasing it. News paper readers are in big numbers, when it comes to newspaper business it is 1/10 of it.
