As India is grow as the best country in IT sector, why cant India extend its wings into Biotech field where maracils can be created, how ever the degrading health of society indicates that there should be use of environmental friendly products which can be created by only biotech subject.
Most of the Indian politicians are greedy about money,so they wish to improve IT sector which make their bags filled which black cash,as if it is not possible in biotech field, where the announced budget should be spent on the biotech practials completely,in that case they dont get any money to their banks
Kindly do not feel down. There too much possibilities in Biotech. field.
Read Chinna's comments carefully. It is bad that India is unable to encash this Biotech. revolution as they did with IT.
But, do not loose hope because you people are hope of my India. So do not let it down...
Make a Biotech Forum/ Community, and I think, we have one here, join it, come together, we may find a solution soon. keep faith in GOD, and yourself, too.
Cheer Up, and move ahead in the right direction. Good Luck to you all. GOD Bless you !
Biotech opportuniteis in India are too low and it is because of uncertainity in policies, patents, IPR issues etc. Let me try explaining to in short and I am trying to convey the difficulties which is only tip of an iceberg!!!
The incubation period for a new bio-pharmacecutical product is about 8 - 10 years and to bring the new molecule successfully in the market, company or corporates will have to spend about a billion US $.
The chances of molecule entering in to Phase - III clinical trial is about 2 - 3 %
To check the toxicity of `New re-combinant' proteins or molecule, it has to undergo animal toxicity studies especially in monkeys - in India we do not have facilities.
Each new recombinant protein or peptides or small molecules has to be tested in mokeys (depending on the homology of the protein in comparison with monkey's proteins)
For each new molecules about 24 - 32 specified monkey species are essential
Our animal activists do not allow us make any monkey trials
When the requied monkey species are not available in India, the monkeys will have to be imported and our government policies are so difficult to import monkeys
After using the monkeys for trials one cannot let out the monkeys in wild which is against the ecological rules
Even, the toxicity studies are out-sourced again which is very expensive, the clinical trials (phase - I to Phase - III and may be extended for want of safety and efficacy data) getting the volunteers for such product is very difficult.
The trial should be multi centered and large amount money is required!!
We have been requesting the concerned govt. department to have centralized animal toxicity facilities, which could be used by many pharma companies, but still it has not been materialized.
As a scientist, when you develop a potential therapeutic molecule, and unable to proceed further, the fundamental insterest is lost always!!!
The initial investment for setting up biotech based pharma company is alarmingly expensive, and after investing (with great difficulties), if a product takes about 10 - 12 years to reach the market, I am sure no Biotech company in India will try to develop new molecules. Because there is NO RETURN of Income!
With all the hurdles, when a molecules sees the market, the pricing will be very high and we always look for Govt. support for subsidy!!
Alternatively, one need to buy either technology or collaboration or contract manufacturing. With all these, number of biotech candidates requied to handle a single molecule from Lab to production are about 70 - 75. In my opinion the Biotech students are very good and knowledgeable in Technology but most of them do lack in basics of Microbiology/Biochemistry etc.
when you try to estimate number of students coming out every year with Biotech back ground Vs number biotech companies (new + exisiting) the ratio is alarming!!
Most of the students when the pass out Biotech do not realize the ground realities and 50 - 60 % of the students do not want to `Soil' their hands when they join. With this kind of attitude, the organization tend to train students and lose them too! So, the project does not meet the time-lines and projects are getting delayed.
Now, we have to find solutions jointly as how to absorb the Biotech students in the industry. God only should save us from this kind of situation!!
Every industry has to be commercially successful to see faster growth - unfortunately the Biotech industry needs a lot of time sometimes in years to actually invent or innovate a product to become commercially feasible and successful. Most of the funding for the IT industry comes from FII's which once again can be done for the Bitoech industry as well. The government alone cannot be blamed for this, current leading players and industry organizations have to lobby in international funding environments to increase confidence and get the inflows - so that the industry can nourish in the long run
Biotech as an industry is a hogh risk industry if we see from the finance and investing point of view. As biotech is more based on a research of a single molecule from thousands and lakhs of molecule when the reseacrh is started. So the investor in a biotech company needs a lot of patience and risk takling ability as hios total investment in a biotech company can be wiped out if the tresearch did'nt turn out to be a successful molecule.
Moreover you need to have a prespecified guidelines during research and clinical trials which we lack here. In US there are guidelines for the biotech research and clinical trials which every big and small companies have to follow before undergoing clinical trials. there are 4 phases of clinical trilas that the companies have to go through.
So looking to these two big hurdles of a risky investor and proper guidleines in India still Indian companies have not gone so far in biotech but as opportunity is immense in biotech I feel India would join the pace as foreign collaborations with the Indian MNC's would change the course of industry in India.
Biotech requires Policy Support as well mindset change.
Transgenics can help us build sustainable crops for Biofuel production, Australia is leading in Asia Pacific, small contries like Indonesia,Thailand are ahead of us.
GOI has no desire to enable Blending mechanism succeed, no ministry speaks nor there is Media support to reduce particulate emissions. There is tremendous future for this and we need to invest in research.
Well actually mam all one are greedy here so we cant aim only the politicians of India actually the bio enterprunrs are less in number as compared to it sectr.
Nobody can predict future we never know that what will happen to biotech market in future but we hope for the best because biotechnology covers all market means it is combination of different fields with their technique because this technique word or technology is here so definately its market will rise.
First of all, I would like to say onething clearly, nowadays students are expecting only high salary without having sufficient experiences. In India there is a lot of vacancies available in different fields but students focus is in one direction only.If a person really wants to learn, he wont see the salary range in Industry.I everyone wants to join in same field means, then noone will get job.
The only drawback is in some companies they will expect references to give job.
Students are having wide knowledge regarding subjects but they dont have broadmind thinking.
I partly agree with Mr. Rajesh Kumar because, one cannot expect that all Biotech institutes will have excellent faculties and again it depends on the institute. But the students should also realize (especially Post-graduates) that their efforts to learn and understand the subjects is also very imporatant. Most of the students expect that the faculties should give notes, questions and answers too to write the exams!! But, in the existing situation, students participation in understanding the subjects and fundamentals are equally important.
i am very much agree with u Mr Siddhartha .. there is great avenues in the field of biotechnology.. but all is up to ur skill and motivation for ur field and clarity for tha kind of study u r doing.
now not only biotechnology but its branches as related to specialization iE transgenic den Agri bio-tech , food biotechnology not only give u A HIGH HEAL SCENARIO FOR JOB AS WELL AS RESEARCH BASED STUDIES.. SO JUST BE MOTIVATED FOR UR STUDY AND GO AHEAD A LOT MORE IS THERE TO HAPPEN
hi all, as far as i think and believe, opportunities isnt less, its just that we r a little slow in R&D, i have completed a PhD in neurogenetics, i feel there is a place for everyone here in this field, the only caveat lies in the fact that one should equip himself/herself with value added expertises like MBA, clinical data management, research methods, bioinformatics tools etc one should do things only becoz the herd is doing so, its always best to have an edge, Indian Biotech market is here to stay, im very optimistic...comments are welcome
you all have jobs if you really try in a right way... many compaies are looking for Msc biotech pool. please do not bound urself for only biotechnology. explore more in the related fields like Clinical Research, Clinical Data Management, Pharmacovigilance, study site coordinator and many more.... all biotech companies..GVKBIO, Biocon, shanta biotech, Bharat biotech..... all they r into bulk drug, imntermediates, formulations, biotech and Clinical fields... they need money to survive.. same way we need to search for the options for more related fields... All the best n hope you all get job soon.
Very simple. If you really wanna work n u have enough zeal, you have job in India in every field. ofcource if you really interested in any related fields. eg; Pharma, Clinical research, Clinical data Management, production, site coordinators, Pharmacovigilence and biotechnology. all are related to work right. what GVKBio or Shanta biotech, Bharat Biotech, Biocon....do ... all are into clinical research. currently its working to mke money or survive... y dont you guys try for tjhe same when companies are concidering your knowledge???? Go ahead.. stop these debates and arguments.... End of the day we need money n satisfaction. when we dont get with our ...... just move on n get it.
Its not the opportunities are less....jobs do exist in RnD, teaching and various govt. organisations. But this s only possible after acheiving higher education like m.tech n phds..Certainly education industies are encashin the name of biotechnology, as it requres higher infrastructure and advanced facilities combined with reseach accumen of the candidate, mere BSc or BE/BTech cant be the way for the jobs. Also a comparison with other sectors wrt jobs (with same degree) visualises apparently lesser jobs.
Biotech requires higher resources and money, and India being poor country with about 45 percent of Indians are extremely poor and 80 percent poor by international standards(wikipedia), only a few govt organisations like DBT. CSIR, ICAR etc are sufficient enough for required fundings at institute level investment and higher research. So, if one wants a sucess in biotech field be patient and thougtful.
As in india only biotechnology subject has been introduced. Every where biotech has been taught but there is not a single teacher who can really teach this subject. So, all the company who is bringing revolution in biotech is only from foreign and all the indian students are assistant. we only work to make reagent and nothing else than this because we have not been got any good knowledge in Biotechnology. This all fault is of government because they have given permission to teach biotechnology everywhere even there is no one to really give 10% of confidence in biotech.Thats why there is not growth in biotech yet.
I don't think opportunities are less. Biotechnology in India is now in its initial stage. Once international companies start coming, it will flourish.....
analysis of DNA nad RNA at molecular level is Molecular Diagnostics. This helps indetecting molecular defects in inherited diseas and a solution can be invented for such sort of diseases
Its important to improve the standards of educational socities rather gaining profit in the form of fees.most of the students moving abroad go to settle over there in anycase even of not caring about their backlogs. this condition proves that they are...
