The recent HBR article, Ethical Breakdowns, got me thinking. I have done a summary of this on my blog http://sundayposts.blogspot.com/2011/04/41100-ethical-breakdowns.html.

Cleaning job is of the owner, whether it is home, business, body and mind. In India its use short cuts, somehow get there, "grab it all" it’s the way, recently some Anna was trying to talk about corruption, and is being pushed from all corners.

Politicians in India are demi god "do nothing", "have everything", so business men are cunning greedy after all they have to keep up with the Demi God, The business fellow invested something unlike the politician!!

Because there are loop holes in the systems that are used for gain.More than that these days there is no such thing called conscience.when a CEO the custodian for ethical practices can swindle millions out company coffers or evade taxes unethically.I agree with Mr Jaygopal Raghavan

The adage that the tail wags as the head does is proven right when it comes to indian corporates. The race of commercialisation and the quest for material greatness has driven out any semblance of ethics from the minds of indians. If a CEO or the owner sets an example then surely the rest would be shamed if not forced to follow.

Ethics has gone out of the windows of dictionaries of 99% of Indians.

Get your things done by any means, make money by any means.

If some Corporates resort to this for survival, why they should be left behind?

In fifties, it started within a few politicians; it then trickled down to Babus,no fear of losing jobs, salary is pocket money- will come in any way;no commitments, drive the blame/fault to your sub-ordinates,push the decision making upwards.

Now it is too late. The disease has entered into each and everybody.

Definitely, we need a revolution !One Anna will be thrown out in no time. Many Annas have to work together.

In the competitive environment, in order to sustain their initiative, for fear of failure or closure if sacrosanct rules are followed in the given circumstances, they adopt all possible unethical means to keep their company going. On top of it, in order to get the patronage from the ruling government, they are forced to fund the election expenditure either by cash or kind. Unethical means starts from there, and no looking back so long as they are enjoying the patronage from the political group!

The greed for wealth, the ego for being on top in Forbes list, the lack of Technical and Managerial ability of CEO's who ascend the ladder by climbing on the shoulders of peers are the factors responsible for unethical behavior of Companies. The majority of politicians who enter the political arena from lower strata of society with little or no education and no regard for human values add fuel to the fire and join to form a deadly nexus with Private entities and bureaucrats.

Usually, it is the CEOs and the owners who are in trouble if a company is caught behaving badly. However, it is usually everyday bad behaviour that accumulates into a big transgression some day. The key question is whether Ethics is a top down issue: Can a bad CEO lead a good team of people astray, or is it more about otherwise decent individuals behaving badly at work.

Sad to hear this. Infosys needs to do something to reign on the high pressure work culture and bullying. I have heard similar complaints from friends working here in the UK. Whatever the media story about Infosys is, I have this impression of them as a...
