Hi Vishal, thanks for creating the debate. Many students have this doubt whether companies are recruiting through skill or percentage. Many companies use percentage to shortlist the candidates and only a few use it for recruiting. Companies feel this is a effective  and time saving process.

Please make the sides more clear so that we can have a good discussion.

percentage criteria should not be mandatory during the placements, to be successful it is the skills and work related competencies that matter not the marks in exams.

Today it should not be mandatory even majority companies have change thier criteria & policy. Company is more focus on practical experienced, skill, ability, extrat curriculam activities, involvement etc. as compared to percentage.Yes, in Govt. banking sector, upto some extent it is imporatnt.

I was working for a global consulting firm in kolkata as a fresher. Once I asked the HR, why is that its 60% career for IITians and 70% for the rest. She said well IITians with 60% are better than rest with 70%. After completing Masters from an elite, i joined another Consulting firm and during the induction i asked the same question, upon which i got the same answer. I could not understand, how my basics changed in 2 years. I believe %age is a way to cut short few from others. Of course it has its advantages.

I agree,% criteria does not make any sense as it does not filter the candidates as per their skills but recruiters are more of looking towards the old academics,XTH,XIITH,graduation,It sometimes demoralise the candidates at the time of seating on the placemnet, where those who are not technically skilled they are happily seat for the placements and those who are top rankers in MCA or B.Tech ..just wait for the companies who is not counting for the throughout acadmic careers and in between this thay candidate may or may not get chance to show their skill, and finally out from the placement activities without any offers in hand.

My personal feel..... percentage wont tell a student having best capabilities or not.... Only Indian companys are asking percentages..International companys are not like that...
