SME companies normally have few skilled employees and its difficult to adopt IT. This might put them into losses or they need to invest more to make profit. So they don't want to take risk......

In my interaction with SME operators across across various industry vertical has always resulted in that one question which we see in maruthi adds "Kitna Degi". Most places you will see an accountant or the owner punching away into Tally all the financial numbers, however the problem which i have seen they face is in Inventory Management and Logistics.

Operating a cell phone needs no skills (in the current context), similarly for example if a software were structured to simply ask the end-user to click the image of a barcode and the software does rest of the "Magic". I fail to see how lack of skills will impact technology adoption.

The current enterprise solutions space is just too expensive for the SME to invest and realize their returns within the same year or even on a two to three year landscape. There are very few IT organizations who believe in profits by higher volume and low margins rather than profits by higher margin and low volume.

The moment technology combination of Mobility and Software As A Service are available with the thinking of profits by higher volume and low margins, we will see a shift in the SME segment and more and more of them will be keen to adopt technology.
