Just to dissapoint you Himanshu but we must admit that in last 1000 yrs India has been a weak nation. If we discard the rulers of B.C like Mauryas, Vardhans, Chaulas & all there were no prominent rulers. India was being ruled by multiple kings holding small sized kingdoms giving Invaders from Iran a chance to rule the country. Moghuls united India & then it was British. So the crux remains that as India was rich in resources it was called a golden bird. Sad to say but still foreign MNCs unite the nation India.

The country of this size had abundant natural resources, but lack of unity, allowing a handful of people from alien soil landed in the country to do business could hold the country under their captivity for over 150 years could be the factor for calling India a Golden Sparrow. I may be wrong, but there could be definitive meaning to it!

I don't about Golden Sparrow but our company did have golden opportunity to capitalize on the Mica reserves ( World's largest) but thanks to our policy makers and responsiveness of the government , by the time we got serious , MICA value crashed to 1/5th of its initial price. Had we taken advantage of it , logistically the Semi Conductor Giants might have put manufacture/R&D centres and we could have been other dominant force like Japan who is having 40% share of the market. News is that Steel is going to be replaced by Titanium in 15 Yrs. I just hope right policies are in place so that a reserve is given the right impetus by the policy makers to favorably help country's growth and of course keeping in mind the environment's well being.

Well there are 2 ways of looking at it - - Golden could signify "richness" in terms of resource (esp. spices, in those days), character etc and Sparrow (a symbol of spiritual abundance, peace, love, small but powerful), OR
- Golden could signify "richness" in terms of resource (esp. spices, in those days), character etc and Sparrow (as one of the participants put it, a symbol of a weakness in front of other big predators)
Now, it depends how you perceive a sparrow as - a symbol of weakness or a symbol of a small bird yet powerful enough to be heard without having the loudest of voices. However, the common factor here is, "Richness" in wealth, character and should I say, women too!

Our country was called "GOLDEN BIRD" because it has vast treasures of gold, diamonds and other precious stones. Not only this, We were also TEACHERS, since our country was the only one to invent mathematics and other subjects, also we have established great cities. At that time rest of the word was searching for a place to establish themselves. Eg. British were searching for a land rich enough to purchase their items, Countries like Iran, Iraq were still in barbaric culture. Our country was civilized, peaceful and united. Although there were many kings ruling in different parts of our country but the country was united since at that time borders were defined by 'CIVILIZATION" and not by any deomocratic lines. It was the moguls who started ruining our country first by destroying our universities, temples then by loosing land of nowdays called as AFGHANISTAN in time of Moghul King Jahangir. Then due to foundation laid by Moghuls in Delhi, partition of Pakistan and Bangladesh occured. But we are still strong because we are holding 2nd biggest army in the world, we never lost in face to face battle in our history except from china due to some political reasons. And since people like me will never let it down.
