I agree with you Balaji, if you are technically sound nobody can stop you especially in IT, people lacking in technical skills would only curse their luck, its better they should focus on their skill level and upgrade it.

I have never met an intelligent who has not got a job. What's the use of such intelligence? excellent communication skills is not mandatory in every field. Luck is an excuse for lazy handicap mentality people, it only counts when you want get an extraordinary position or a dream job without considering your level of skills and maturity. Luck factor cant be quantified.

But due to lack of communication, we were not able to get the type of job. COMMUNICATION IS THE MOST IMPORTANT TOOL... TO EXPRESS YOUR INTELLIGENCE ! LUCK for sure is a factor... BUT even if you dont gt the Job, Communication should be PRECISE, PERFECT and Peppered with Excellent Vocabulary, Correct Spelling & Flowery Language. This alone can take you places... anywhere across the Globe. Intelligence is never neccessarily accompanied by " Great Communication Skills ". Thats where a lot of Candidates FAIL to Impress their 'To Be Employers'. Luck always remains a constant factor in Life ! Happy Debating Friends !

Luck is a secondary factor what matters is attitude and general awareness and basic common sense which is very uncommon these days ......Nerds and all 80and 90% cateogary think that their specialization knowledge is sufficient enough to get them a job.......(especially engineerss).....its all about how smartly and strategically work towards getting a good job.......average students cateogary come under this ......who just do less of bookish knowledge and more of research 2 improve themselves in this aspect........there was a meritorius student in my batch who was a 90% in engg but never knew how to write a request letter to the head of our university what justification will he.she do to an organization when they lack all such minimum things if even if they clear the job interviews.........its not lack of luck...... strongly its just lack of awareness and that all 90% category are just frogs in a well without knowing how to enhance their basic skills........

if during interview the candidate is clear in communicating what si desired by him / her then the company can judge wether they are in need of that candidate or not When I took and still taek interviews I have met candidates who express their views clearly, please note book knowledge is just 20 % what interview lokks for , all we look for is how you communciate and how you answer and wht are your views and which are you wish to make a career so I cannto recruit a perosn who wanst to be a chef for a operation job just becasue he needs money to go abroad or he was told by his parents to tke bank job to support family There have been instances wherein people from science background - biology have been taken in operation job and they have risne ransk it so because they were focused and clear in their mind , and not forced to things they did not want to do In an interview a experienced interviwer will easily catch wether you are interested in job or you are taking just becasuse you need a job or you are pressurised by family to take up one of their choice

Luck is definitely one of the important factors, but there are other factors as well that can place you on top of other candidates. Many times it is observed that job seeker try answering question in a theoretical way just to please the interviewer which may sometime turn off the interviewer, especially when you are discussion with the upper management. I think one need to take practical approach during the discussion. Jobseeker should do his/her homework before going for an interview. 1)Research thoroughly about the position you are applying for and ensure that you are the right fit for the position. 2)Research about the organization and its technology and compare it against its competitor, If it I a public listed company find out whether company is profitable, read analyst comments, read past or existing employee reviews, find out at what percentile the company pays. 3)Based on your research, list down all the doubts that you may want to clarify.

Its very true that a knowledgeable candidate can work well but he most of times stands behind those who have better communication skill and he doesn't. Here , its all depends on the interview or employer how he judge such candidates , if they are looking for a candidate that can have good communication skill first and then they go for testing his knowledge. In such cases, the candidate who have lack of communication skills not get what he deserve as per his knowledge in his field but one thing I want to say that in today's scenario, everybody needs to have a good communication skills first before opting any field for work whether s/he working at front-office or back-office work.

I am not on this side , but I am certainly against "luck" being a factor in one's success , not only in interviews , but even in life. When you are one of the candidates in an interview , you can never say that you were the best among all of the candidates ; it is only the interviewers who can say that. So to say that you did very well in the interview and were still not selected , is not correct. An interviewer has to select from several good candidates , and the decision can be based on several factors. Invariably , people complain of luck only when they do not do well ; no one attributes his success to luck !

Well... The thing is nowadays employers are not quite sure about the kind of person they want to recruit.Lack of communication is not really a factor if they have decieded that you are the right person. The above mentioned is when you just need to work... no questions asked....!!! On the other hand if luck has to be weighed it could only be called or referred to as a lack of timing.Timing is really important. Its always about what you say and when you say it. And that is what is called the art of communication.

Mr. Mohan Murari Well I have met thousands of intelligent people jobless and on the contrary paradox is that inefficient, undeserved and dumb are working. This is the greatest tragedy of India in concern that those who deserves never get it and who is in that position don't deserve to be there at any way. Without luck you are like a duck whatever you speak is considered a quack.... quack.... even though you are knowledgeable and rational.

Well I know there cruel reason why it is not Bad luck nut the inefficiency of recruiters in todays "For Sale" world. Firstly the talented mass is considered over educated than the recruiters by themselves and it gives the recruiters the sense of insecurity and inferiority which ultimately results in jealousness and the recruiters dismiss the candidate by giving stupid reasons like voice and accent or communication issue or grammar where their grammar is greatly appreciated by non brain holders. Secondly after selection the trainer feels the same and that results in personal grunges and same feeling in trainers or seniors so results in the termination of the talent. Thirdly having seen these enormous corruption and mismanagement accompanied with personal frustration of the talented individual he opts to either Quit or his talent is rusted in due course of life......... So those who are inside the organization are selected brainless and incapable of research capability and those who have the research capability are sent outside to suffer and get wasted for no good reasons and this is the paradox which has indeed engulfed all organizations like a deadly virus ... No matter how proficient you are in your communication if the dumb recruiter understands that you are more superior in regards of mental strength and workability you are sure not to get the job and even if you manage to get that you will be fired after or in course of training. This (Communication issue) is the most famous pet alibi of the recruiters which is thrown on the candidates when they realize that no other option is left for rejection so they have found out this technique to create more Osamas and more criminals as if the candidate is not hired there won't be any harm to the recruiter but the Nation and talent will suffer because there will be two options to end his misery either to Quit or to be a terror and remember there is never a middle way when it comes to life......................

If candidate is having more than enough experience and knowledge and communication is also good, then just due to pre-decisional nuisance of the interviewer that I don't like this candidate or some other biasing make us dependent on Luck factor. Also In some opportunities, only First class holder candidates are allowed then what for the person having 59.9% and much better than First class holder...Again luck comes in.... What happens when we reach late at the interview venue due to unexpected obstacle on the way....luck dependency....

Getting a job doesn't depends on communication but even on knowledge and luck. A person having a very good communication but due to lack of knowledge he is not selected then it will b called lack of knowledge but if a candidate is having a good knowledge, good communication but were not been able to clear the interview then it will be due to luck because we don't know what was going in the interviewer's mind. For a fresher getting a job depends on luck initially because the company doesn't look for communication but for knowledge too which a freshers wont have in the practical field. He will gain so once will b employed. So luck plays a major factor too.

I think not getting selected for any job can be due to many reasons and anything going wrong would lead to non selection. We just can't attribute the reasons to either luck or lack of communication only. But, still if only one needs to be chosen, then more number of causes can be clubbed under the head of lack of luck.

In this regard I definitely support Alex, that luck plays a vital role in job acquisition. I am a person who definitely believes in lot of destiny and luck. Moreover, communications may play a vital role in certain jobs like MNC’s companies, BPO companies and the like, where a candidate has to prove his communication skills and he is selected on this regards only. Whereas there are other jobs where communications skills may play a secondary role and they are not a full and final. In such cases recruitment is not done taking communication skills as a yardstick. Infact, a candidate has to undergo a number of steps before finally he is taken into the job. It is just luck that a recruiter likes a candidate’s response to any query or attitude and a candidate is finally selected... So here luck plays a major role.

Hi Fernandes, thanks to have invited me to this discussion. Quite interesting that you are puzzling yourself in the same way in India about this topic (:-) I can assure all of you that the same is happening in many other countries. Root cause can be different but basically it seems that "something out of your control is acting". So, name-it "luck" and hope to be more lucky in the future. Only take care to be professional, competent, and clear-minded regarding your goals My 2 cents

Communication skills play an important role. However, luck is an imponderable factor that cannot be quantified. Many times the exact reason is not known, but a candidate may not succeed despite having all the key skills. Thus, it is difficult to determine all the exact factors that lead to success.
