Islam is always misunderstood by people particularly non-muslims because most of them have little knowledge about Islam. It is always misinterpreted because it is often projected falsely/wrongly by Media. People always try to interpret Islam by merely observing the blacksheeps (who are present in each and every community) of muslim community. Islam is most non-violent and peaceful religion of the world. But one can only know about it by going through the Holy Quran and the Hadith of Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him).

@Neha: What you said is true for those who dont know, i wont say illetrate but unknown.

Besides providing guidelines in personal, social, moral and spiritual spheres of humanity, the Quran touches upon diverse scientific topics like astronomy, geology, embryology, genetics, biology, archeology etc. Some of these are:

The Big Bang !... Quran 1400yrs back, science 1937.

Expanding Universe...1925 ;The Existence of Sun's Orbit; Conquest of Space by Human 1957 ;Ozone ;Embroyology ;Gender  - Determination;Existence of pairs in all creations.

Dr. Keith Moore , Professor of Embryology, after analyzing the verses of the Quran for three years comments: "It has been a pleasure for me to help clarify statements in the Quran about Human Development. It is clear to me that these statements must have come to Muhammad from God or Allah because almost all of this knowledge was not discovered until many centuries later"

Dr. Maurice Bucaille , French Physician, after studying Quran and comparing it with modern science, addressed the French Academy of Medicine in 1976 proclaimed: "Our knowledge of these disciplines is such, that it is impossible to explain how a text produced at the time of the Quran could have contained ideas that have only been discovered in modern times".

Dr. Joe Leigh Simpson , Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, proclaims: "...These Hadiths (sayings of Muhammad) could not have been obtained on the basis of the scientific knowledge that was available at the time of the writer (7th century)...It follows that not only is there no conflict between genetics and religion (Islam) but in fact religion (Islam) may guide science by adding revelation to some of the traditional scientific approaches... There exist statements in the Quran shown centuries later to be valid which support knowledge in the Quran having been derived from God".

Dr. Tejatet Tejasen , Professor of Anatomy, attending the Eighth Saudi Medical Conference, stood up and likewise announced: "From my studies and what I have learnt at this conference, I believe that everything that has been recorded in the Quran 1400 years ago must be true. That can be proved the scientific way".

COULD you please tell me what modernity you are referring to ???

The interpretation of the religion is in the hands of a select few. Some of these have their own axes to grind. In other religions, where any mortal can argue facts with his preacher and get away. Here, the preachers is the only interpretation.

@Kaisar, we, and all historians, go by the date when the literature is written, not by it's emotional, personal or any other value.

@ Neha

You are again giving your own interpretation without knowing the truth (sorry, I do not want to hurt you). Suppose, according to you Quran is among old literatures but if you read it you will be able to know that it fits/suits not only to the present but also to the future. Quran speaks about modern science, embriology, oceanology, ecology, economics, finance etc /and what not. But one will be able to know only after reading the sacred script.

@kaisar, the interpretations of ancient lit to suit modern tastes is always a tough job. In India, the masses follow low, loud, violent, illiterate, and garish methods, so they are preached that!!! Both In Hindusim n Islam n Jainism!!!

Muslim beliefs are widely misunderstood and irresponsibly reported on in the western world, and this is now happening in our subcontinent too. We humans as a whole need to see this world with different eyes and be unbiased in our thoughts. Then only we can understand how much we are different or Alike.

@Neha

The teachings of Islam are always related to Non-violence and Peace etc. But unfortunately it is always interpreted negatively without knowing the Truth. A wrong stereotype has been developed against Islam. If you go through the sacred scriptures of Islam you will obviously find that Islam is the religion of peace, otherwise, by mere observing the black sheeps you will be mislead. Most of the times media is responsible for all this but being an educated one one has to know the truth. That is possible only after going through the sacred scriptures.

If the person who killed 90+ people in Norway was a Muslim, the Press would have declared him as terrorist and the act as terrorism. For now, he is just an "Assailant", "Attacker" (Reuters), "Gunman" (BBC, CNN & Al Jazeera). Looks like "Terrorist" is a name reserved for Muslims???. The US Dept of State calls it an "Act of violence" (not an "Act of Terrorism").......................How Strange ...Isnt it???????????

@Zubair: I believe this thread is a good step to elaborate on various interpretations by different sects of society. people can always share here what they think about ISLAM and if you and i and some one else know the facts, we can clear that misinterpretaion. Instead of coming forward and sharing the thoughts we must not weaken ourselves...

My dear Kaisar, I really dont understand your point behind posting such debate? Are you going to shed some light on what you have raised or you are inviting people to come & debate on such issue which you have already started with WHY! I have nothing much to add to your debate about Islam that. Islam is to believe in oneness of ALLAH (swt) and to the messenger(pbuh). If this very concept is misunderstoood than i dont think any body can elaborate it further.

Thnx Bakhsh For showin intrest. I can understand bindings for non-participation. Scholar level is fine, here we can just discuss and then refer to scholars. The basic reason needs to be addressed, and that can be perfectly looked into here.(my opinoin)

Thanks,Arif for referral.Generally I do note participate on discussion about religion. In my view, we the followers ,particularly Islamic scholars should take all the blame. Islam accords equality to all human beings and never distinguish between rich and poor and preach justice to all.The religion which preaches Rabbul Alamin( Allah belongs to all) and Reahmatul lil Alamin ( His prophet Mohammad(SAW) belongs to all). The religion teaches that take care of your neighbor, if he or she is hungry. We have to look within

@ Sarika, I agree with you that it is not possible to say for sure. God knows better.
Yes, smoking hurts people who do not smoke. And it is unfair & in-humanistic to use the thing which hurts others.
