The content and reporting in the regional media is way better than the national media. The regional media focuses on issues relevant to the people, and have been doing some great programs of late on social, political issues. Another reason is the English media's "Mumbai-Delhi" centric attitude. Beyond Mumbai, Delhi, the English media forgets there is another India too. It focuses on that part only if there is some scandal, bomb blast, scam or Naxal attack( Eastern India). In such a situation, people prefer regional media much more. If I want to have the latest updates on Telangana-Andhra issue or say the flood situation in Odisha, I would any day prefer ETV or OTV, not NDTV or CNN-IBN.

South India cherished and has not eroded age-old value system. "Simple Living and High Thining" is the paradigm on which they have built their edifice and has not allowed other cultural influences overtake them. Another plausible argument could be that due to vehement opposition of Hindi by your erstwhile leaders, the real essence of the language has not penetraded deep down. If you look at the dominance of Hindi States, you see fused culture, snobberism, decaying of deep-rooted value system and portrayal of western habits, be it eating habit, fashion, ear-deafening music and entertainment, and more so the soap operas depicting fused culture. We take pride in discussing more about the countries visited and their cultural patterns and denigrate our own ancient tradition as "utopian", "irrational dogmas", etc. Another important point is Tamil is one of the ancient languages, as old as Sankrit. All the four vedas are extolled in Tamil as "Naalayira Divyaprabandham". Twelve Azhwars, who were the re-incarnation of "panchayudas" of Primordial Maha-Vishnu, re-incarnation of "Adisesha", "Lakshmana" into Sri Ramanujacharya, Sri Manavaala Maamunigal, and other eminent Acharyas extolled Sriman Narayana in various forms and given the essence of all in a lucid poetical form. Our vedanta is complete in all respects. Similarly, 63 Nayanmars have extolled Lord Shiva as "Thiruvaasagam". The glory of this literature is complete in all respects. The saddest part is people from the other parts of the country are neither not willing to learn or understand nor do they allow such teachings penetrate into the society. This approach should change!

Yes, regional media is more dominant in southern region since people especially ladies love to watch serials as their favourite past time and take the impacts also more personally. This "emotional reaction" is the major pulse of all the media be it southern or Northern sectors

Where cultural preferences are strong, people go in for viewing regional channels accordingly. I personally pefer the national viewing channels because the presentation and ethos are superior.

In India, regional media is strong. Where cultural preferences are strong, people do go in for viewing channels accordingly. Even though the presentation and ethos on the national viewing is definitely superior.

Yes, it leads... Attachment to culture, limited learning, limited exposure, limited inclination to try new things... and biased political will Earlier Kings, then Thakurs, then Britishers and now Political leaders; who so ever had power has taken advantage of ignorance of mass and want them to remain same. The best way is restrict majority to local language, by showing them danger of lost identity, love for own language & culture and what not...

Chandrasekaar, its true the culture and value system are the major reason for regional media domination. Indian people are more attached to their region and its culture so the media's see slow growth especially in India. People should come out of this and try to support other regional media too. This will help us to go global in the media industry.... :)
