Cost is the only factor. The chinese manufacturers of practically any product are using the low cost to break all market barriers across the world. Obviously quality takes a beating.

Agree with Mr.KLR.

However, it is not possible to do the same things that the Chinese do due to labor problems or due to Unionized Labor. Having Super (State) Control on the Union has been a Boon for China and not having it is a Bane for India.

Quality is only to the extant that the user requires and the cost paid for it. I can buy a very high quality TV for Rs. 50 thousand that would run for 15 years without giving problems. Whereas I can also buy a TV for Rs. 20 thousand that would work for about 5 years without any problem. If I buy the Rs. 20,000 TV, I have the advantage of getting it changed after 5 years with a better and newer model. Of course, the Chinese TV would cost Rs. 10,000 and work for about 2 years (hopefully).

Because they are cheap. And most of people are cheap in general! If we don't have to spend, we will not! And that mindset often leads to buying cheaper products.

I heard once when i was pursuing Engg "Kam me Bun".... If you get a cell that can do things that N series, or i-phones can do, and also can be used in multipurpose for 5000bucks would ya like to buy a branded phone worth Rs15000... They are having that cutting edge technology and resources to give such a product for such a low cost.

Cheaper Price. Lower quality no doubt. But if I can get the latest (well almost latest) say cell phone at one fifth the price, I buy the item, use it for a while, and then 3-4 years down the line discard the same and buy another top-of-the-line Chinese item at again 1/5 of the price. This theory will work very well for the use and throw items - fast moving consumer electronics.

Chinese manage to manufacture at very low cost. The customers, who go only for low price go for Chinese product. When customers will start rejecting Chinese products, the only reason will be Quality. Another salient feature of Chinese products is total absence of after sales service.

Yes, it is due to the cost factor. Yes if we can have bring in innovation and creativeness in our manufacturing industry to bring high quality products at a cheaper manufacturing cost, we should be able to grab a good chunk of the global market. The biggest example is the toy industry and the electronics industry. It is true that labour and overheads are cheaper in china, but if we are able to bring in better quality products at a cheaper manufacturing cost we would be ahead of china.

China's cost elements such as labour and overheads are competitive, they have export promotion support from the government and built up trade infrastructures such as Alibaba and internet access that enables them to access the world and hide their language weaknesses. Quality is tolerable for the cost you pay and makes most items affordable to the masses and industries. I am sure they will work on the quality elements as the follow-up initiatives to sustain their achievements. It is a penetrative strategy in itself.

China is the worlds manufacturing hub. People generally buy Chinese products because they cater to the mass.....ie the bottom of the pyramid. People are aware that the products are not for life long but it generally serves the purpose.

If you define quality as value for money and adequate quality for the intended purpose then Chinese goods comes first. After you dont need 100% quality product always. Or you dont need a product that lasts and gives the same kind of output for generations. Also if you consider Human being as a sustainable natural resource and you should getreturns for every second of it, however samll it is then better to get some value for the available human resource rather than not using it just because you are not getting a right price for the human resource. Therefore Chinese use their human resource to the maximum possible extent because it is sustainbale resource whatever may be the return they get. They Import Raw materials that get exhausted quickly because of exploitation from other countries and use their manpower to give value addition and sell it back to you. We are selling our granite, mineral ores to them and by back steel and polished tiles from them inspite of the fact that we have sufficient manpower here. We import Raw Cashew Nuts even though we can produce RCN ourselves using our manpower and land from Brazil and AFrica and now from Vietnam, a recent entrant to the field. So engaeg our manpower properly. exploit our natural resources judiciously and export finished goods / value added products rather than raw materials.
