Online encyclopedia giant Wikipedia is planning to launch its Indian edition aiming to expand its footprint in the lucrative internet markets of India and China. It is considering a proposal to launch Wikipedia.in, a local India chapter, similar to its country-specific portals in China, Germany, U.S. and UK. While Wikipedia is available in local languages including Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Punjabi and Bengali, the number of articles in these languages is still limited.http://howwikipediaworks.com/resources/wiki15_02.png

It won't have much effect of users. Users are used to Wikipedia. Almost every second Indian knows about it. In this situation also, if Wikipedia couldn't grow, it won't prosper by the addition of few more numbers in its user base...

Informations/ knowledge in regional languages may help to spread education faster. This may become another weapon for " Inclusive Growth " which is haunting all of us.

I think they can. These days IT education is reaching in every corner of India. So, by launching it in local Indian languages, wikipedia will reach in villages of India as well because of which its userbase will increase and thus, it will be able to capture its lost market.
