The subscribers wish for better features, services and as the 3g technology will serve better than 2g then Definitely subscribers will attract towards 3g which will become a trend,a part of daily life(as 2g became) and the Subscriber density will definitely increase in future Thus 3g will succeed 2g.I accede that it will take some time....but am not agree that due to higher bidding prices the Operators will charge indiscreetly THEY WILL COVER UP THEIR EXPENSES THROUGH SMALL PROFIT PER SUBSCRIBER(as the subscribers are large in no.) IN LONG TERM.

If the Telcos/TRAI/Govt dont mess stuff (as they many times do!!!) there will be no return from 3G. If they mess it up then we are heading for 3.5G(3Mbps) or (as usual the leap frog way!!) to 4G. Remember we are not the choosers of any technology as we dont initiate it. We are a market for it and sadly allways at the receiving end of it and quiet a few times we get stale stuff. Looking at the positive side of the coin I see a lot of scope for applications, mobile web interfaces, VoIP on the phone like skype, live video journalism and much more. More datacard usage.

Hi Anurag, interesting debate. Yes surely 3G will become more popular than 2G because of two major reason one is the high data rates and another is the greater degree of security. Then the bandwidth and location information available to 3G devices gives rise to applications not previously available to mobile phone users. Some of the applications are mobile TV, video conferencing, tele-medicine etc. :)

3G will get time to promote all over India.First operators concentrate on keeping license and avoid penalties.so they will implement in top 6 cities in India, it takes one year and The license cost is the more important factor, due to LC,call rate must be too high.Indians are now started to talk by one paisa and .5 paisa,They wont ready to come up for even two paisa also.so my answer is 3G wont come up as early as possible. But it will grow after some 5 yrs.

When the people ate looking at low call rate .. then after paying the bid price and infrastructure deployment ( more costly than 2G) .. its time to see how low cost solution people will have.. Also the requirement of high speed data is limited in mobile till date for mass. As UK faces the 3G failure , the doubt for success in INDIA remains.
