Will A R Rahman be able to compete with other music sites?

Today, I came to know that, the A R Rahman is starting an online music library. For now the store is only meant for international fans who can shop here using only Euros, British Pounds, US Dollars and Canadian Dollars. To put it in a better way, the store his currently meant only for his fans living in the first world countries. As ironic as it sounds, the inventory now only has few of his albums, which of course  have been popular and ‘in-demand’ out there in the west. Besides, a user needs to sign up on the portal first before buying a soundtrack which eventually helps him/her avail special offers on tickets for his concerts.

I just want to ask you guys, already in internet, there are so many free music downloading sites. Can this online music library be able to compete with so many millions of free downloading sites?

I actually don't agree completely that Rahman's site would be able to compete with the rest of the sites, but since I had no other place to write my comment, I am writing it here.  I would take a neutral line on this because obviously the site may not be able to compete with the rest of them but neither does it mean that it will do no business.

No doubt that there are zillions of download sites which offer music for free but then according to various research and studies, this somewhere helps in popularizing the music too and may prove as a little help then complete bane.  Just to cite one of the many research examples, below link highlights one of the aspects.

Initially someone can get lured to download the music for free but if one is a true true fan or follower, he will surely buy the music than downloading it for free.

We know how the entertainment industry is shaped up not only on the internet but also in terms of mobile VAS. Music downloads is one of the biggies among all. That’s the reason why international concerts don’t happen very often in India. I don't think its easy to sustain for a paying music downloading site in an internet market of so many existing free downloading music sites. Who will pay for something which which he can get for free!
