Is now the right time to invest in a Spa? In recent times, it seems as if, wherever one turns, hotel owners and hotel operators are adding spas to their package of products and services in foreign countries. It has started to a small extent in India also. But is it successful here? Will this concept work in India? Will it be able to attract customers?

I also agree to Nirmal, It will work in India.

India is changing and so its people and their trends. Now when we are accepting all new trends then why not this. People would love to have a health treatment or stress free massage on a holiday.

Adding a spa typically represents a very considerable capital expense and it is labour intensive also. It is usually included in the hotel packages of High end. Therefore dont feel it is still the right time to invest in spa by the Indian hotels. May be it will work for very high end hotel where foreign tourists are requent visitors. Because Indian people still not mentally prepared to spend on such facilities.

What are your views friends?

My personal opinion is that Adesh is right in his assessment of the SPA business. In India the time is not yet right for a SPA to become a magnet and attract customers to hotels. An average India customer has not been exposed to the positives of a SPA and hence is oblivious.

I support Akram's views. Indeed Spa has already started attracting customers in India.

I would say YES ,.. it will definately help up the hotels to boost more customers and maitain an international standrads of hotel service..

If we refer it back to a couple of days when hotels were just a place to stay overnigt and check out for the following morning and in those conditions hotels used to provide only basic facilities but when the clock started ticking lots of changes arrived like

Air conditioning,Tv, Safety lockers, personal wardrobe with toiletries, pick up drop facilities, fashion boutiques, hair dresser, gym, indoor games, Wi-Fi, and now SPA AND JACCUZI.. so its definately gonna work...

But i also feel that all these facilites must have been launched long back when compared to other internationa destinations... but looking at the country's current growing conditions and rigid goverment regulations.. its been delayed.. as people say that BETTER LATE THAN NEVER..!!!

I also agre with Nirmal and Anurag. Spa and Massage will attract people. Two years ago, we visited China and all of us were really needing a foot massage, since we were badly tired, after visiting number of places from the tourist point of view.

I do not agree to Adesh,

Trends in Hotels are changing, it started with waterbeds, faxes and a mini-bar into the bedrooms. Then the next thing to come up was a fitness room, outsourcing food and beverage and later internet connectivity and game joysticks.

Now it is the time for Spas..!! People in India are also changing their lifestyles. Their spending power has also increased. People when go for outing and stay in hotels to relax they would definitely give a try to Spas which gives a very splendid relaxation experience. I feel it will definitely work in India. If not Indian people then the tourists visiting India are also huge in number. They will be the ones to use this facility..

I don't think it will much attract Indian customers. Indians are not so much aware about the product and its value. It may attract foreign tourists...

I fully support Adesh's views on the spa business in India. An average Indian tourist is not exposed to the benefits of a spa and still considers it as a luxury. So for a spa to become a magnet and attract guests in a hotel is still a little way off. The time is still not right.

I will agree with Adesh. The value of a spa is not yet clearly understood by the average Indian tourist.

I do agree with adesh.Spa's might help in attracting foriegn customers as it costs a lot of money. In a country like India where people try to get everything at an affordable price spa's are termed as a luxury and they will not be ready to spend money on such luxuries.
